Users / VDR deinterlacing
June 18, 2008, 02:44:19 PM
I have a "combed" screen when watching TV through VDR. My DVD's play without this, so it must be a VDR deinterlacing problem.

I found the VDR setup.conf in /var/lib/vdr/
Which contains the options: "xineliboutput.video.deinterlace" and "xineliboutput.video.deinterlaceoptions" but I'm not sure what best to set these to (nor the parameters that are accepted)

My video out is dvi to hdmi @ 1080p using UI2 masked

Users / VDR has died...
June 07, 2008, 10:14:17 AM
I managed to get my final install of lmce Up how i wanted it, got a channels.conf for my dvb-t and s cards and told vdr to use th dvb-t conf for now in lmce admin to see how it went.
I chose tv from th lmce menu and got a picture.
However, the channels list was incomplete and not in the order of the channels.conf. No epg either!
Anyway, i tried pausing and rewinding live tv (which did work after a few seconds) and then turned my media centre off for the day.
Next day when i came back to it, booted up, clicked tv and the screen froze. So i entered kde and ran vdr from terminal. It failed saying it could not read timers. So i cleared the line in the vdr timers conf that appeared to relate to the program i paused the day before. Vdr then restarted in konsole without errors.
Returned to lmce, selected tv, and the screen still freezes.
Tried rebooting, and then cleared timers from vdradmin web interface. But still tv in lmce wont work.
The only thing i can think is that something is messed up with the recording timer in lmce. So firstly, how can i clear the recording timers in lmce?
I can't rule out that it may be a xine problem either, so secondly, how do i run vdr to display on xine in kde or from the konsole?
Many thanks in advance

Users / VDR Plugins How-to?
May 27, 2008, 12:11:51 PM
Hi,

I want to get some plugins for VDR running on x64 LMCE, one of which is the lcdproc plugin. I am not 100% on what I should do to compile plugins in LMCE.

I have read this how-to http://smart-home-blog.com/writes/configure-imon-padvfd-in-plutohome but don't really understand what the VDR sources are, where the "<your_vdr_src_dir>/PLUGINS/src" is, or whether I need to patch the plugin sources as well.

I also notice that the link for the x64 pre-built deb package is no longer available, so can't do it the easy way :-)

I would be greatful if someone could give me a comprehensive step by step on this.

Cheers

Users / Hauppauge Nova-HD-S2?
April 30, 2008, 08:57:48 AM
Does anyone know if this card is functioning in linux? And more particularly, working in the LMCE VDR version?

If anyone does have this working in LMCE, does it provide full S2 or only basic functionality? (e.g. S only)

Installation issues / Enabling Vsync
March 31, 2008, 12:25:03 AM
Hi,

I have a nVidia xfx 7300 gt and cannot seem to get rid of video tearing.

I have ticked all the boxes in nvidia settings relating to vsync and ticked the vsync box in the mythtv playback setings, I have also tried the latest envy driver but still get quite bad tearing.

I have been using the UI2 with alpha blending so (as suggested on this forum) changed to UI2 masked, but still I get bad tearing. I also closed the orbiter and tried running myth from KDE, but still no improvement.

Is there a special way to prevent tearing? Or is it just that my hardware isn't up to perfect vsync (see below for full list)?

Anybody not getting tearing with their setup?

Users / UIRT repeat commands
March 26, 2008, 07:47:28 PM
After checking through the forum, I can see that this issue has been brought up before e.g.

http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=4348.0

However, I haven't found a resolution.

I have a sky box controlled by a USB UIRT. I can view my sky channels through myth tv and, when I ask it to, it attempts to change channels on my sky box.

The problem is, the UIRT sends too many commands to change channel, and so is useless!

Has anyone resolved this??

Developers / Starting command-line driver from LMCE
March 23, 2008, 10:54:02 AM
This is a question for the devs,

I there a way to start a driver for within LMCE automatically without having to enter KDE and run it from the command line?

I need to start a driver for a device listed in LMCE, but the driver depends on the device starting in LMCE before it is run so that entering the driver command in an init script doesn't work (because the init script is loaded before the devices in LMCE).

More specifically, I have set up a vfd display device in LMCE. I then have an external lcdproc client (see http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=3297.0) that pipes information from the vfd device in LMCE to lcdproc. If the device in LMCE hasn't started then the client exits with error.

I had a similar problem getting the wiimote to run automatically on boot without manually running the driver from a command-line.

Any suggestions on getting LMCE to run commands for drivers near the end of the boot cycle would be appreciated

Cheers

Users / USB-UIRT - How many av devices?
March 20, 2008, 04:18:04 PM
I want to be able to control my tv, amp and skybox using ir (as they all lack serial ports)

I have ordered a UIRT, but will this control all three av devices?

I know the UIRT has a jack to connect a third ir-emitter, but does this run the same as one of the ir emitters in the box?

Users / STB with PVR-500 problem
March 18, 2008, 02:02:14 PM
Hi,

Has anyone successfully set up an external STB (like a sky box) connected via s-video (or componant a/v) to a PVR-500 (PVR-150 will be the same)??

I am having trouble figuring out how to watch my sky box on LMCE.
I have added my sky box as an av device (external satellite box) and specified in the device to use my pvr's s-video input as the video pipe.

I have a 'SKY' button on my orbiter media menu, but when I click it I just lose the media menu and the flikr slide show continues showing.

Do I need to set mythtv up to use my pvr inputs?

At the moment, I am just figuring out how to display the STB av. I have ordered a UIRT to control my STB with the view of being able to set recording times for sky-tv programs.

Is there a way to get the epg for sky tv? Can anyone provide a comprehensive 'how to' from experience of having a similar set-up?

Many thanks in advance!

Users / Philips ir transceiver as UIRT substitute?
March 15, 2008, 04:22:10 PM
I found this -> http://www.memory-express.co.uk/index.aspx?pageid=17&id=629828

It says the transceiver is mce standard - does that mean it will show up the same as an mce ir transceiver in LMCE?

I would rather buy this from the UK than the UIRT from the US!

Anyone have this? or know if it works??

Users / Setting up LIRC ir sending for sky box
March 01, 2008, 11:37:11 AM
Ok, I have a 'homebrew' ir sender that connects to my pc's rs232 serial port see http://www.irblaster.info/
I want to control my UK SKY digibox with it through mythtv (and perhaps then attempt the same in another install with VDR). I have a lircd.conf file for my sky remote and have installed lirc to use the ir sender. However, I dont know how to test this.

Now I have hit a wall. Has anyone managed success in doing this? Do I need to set up a device template for a sky box (av equip) and / or the ir sender?

Any guide will be great

Cheers

Users / Sky Tv and VDR?
February 05, 2008, 02:01:32 PM
Has anyone got a (UK) sky digibox running through LMCE?

I found this thread stating the ability for VDR to control a digibox:

http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=2097.0

But not too sure if it works in LMCE.
Also I thought VDR only liked DVB cards, but assume that you need a PVR type card to connect to any external sky box.

I have just ordered an RS232 ir emmitter so I can give it a try, but before I commit to VDR over Myth, has anyone got this working???

Users / HD / Blu-ray Drive
January 07, 2008, 02:23:20 PM
Does LMCE 0710 support HD / Blu-ray DVD playback??

I looking at getting this drive :
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(28997)LG-GGCH20L-BluRay-HD-Combi-drive-Black-SATA.aspx

Any ideas if it is supported??

I have a Athlon 5600+ processor, 1gb PC6200 DDR2 Ram, and GeForce 7300gt Graphics, so I assume it can handle HD

Users / New update
September 20, 2007, 02:36:00 PM
I notice there is a new update available - 'Update with fixes for Update Media, MythTV Plug-in and the Launch Manager'

What does it fix exactly? Any of the recently posted problems with myth? (eg http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=2273.0)

And how do I install it (I haven't been prompted to install an update in LMCE)

Users / wiimote almost sorted!
September 10, 2007, 11:14:40 AM
I have the wiimote working in LMCE now with full media button functionality using cwiid (follow this howto: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=535659) and altering the button config to incluse keys F3, F5, F6, F7, F8 and Esc as well as mouse left and right click (like the gyromouse, the power button doesn't work though). I installed this in KDE BEFORE installing LMCE, so anyone with LMCE already installed may have dependancy problems.

However I can't seem to find a way of making it start on boot, I have to manually start it by typing 'sudo wminput -c ir_ptr' in the terminal.
BIG problem, as I need a mouse and keyboard to do this, and I don't want them!

Anyone have any suggestions as to how I could make this command run on boot??

Users / TV keeps crashing!
August 29, 2007, 09:58:22 AM
Everytime I watch TV on LMCE it crashes after a minute or so - it's completely unwatchable! I have to then select 'OFF' from the current media menu to exit.

I have an LCD screen on my case that displays info from mythtv. When I enter TV mode on LMCE, the LCD screen displays the channel and program name, but also has a bar of blocks and I'm not sure what these relate to.

Anyway, when the TV freezes this bar of blocks disappears slowly block by block. Does anyone know what this means??

It's like something is being lost, I thought it may have been signal, but could be a frame buffer that never recovers???

My card is a hauppauge hvr-1100 and only have DVB part of it set up in mythtv (as I have no need for terrestrial). It doesn't have a hardware decoder, which makes me wonder if my cpu/graphics card is struggling to do the decoding??

I don't think my setup is too slow though, I have a athlon x2 4200+ cpu, a gig of ram and a nvidia 7300gt graphics card.

Has anyone else had similar problems? Or know of any way that may resolve this? (maybe in the mythtv configuration?)

Cheers in advance

Searched google for this; seems that the bar on the lcd display is an indicator of how far behind the live broadcast you are. So, since it reduces when my TV crashes my frontend must still be alive, or not completely dead!

Installation issues / Changing network card??
August 22, 2007, 12:19:38 PM
I installed LMCE whilst connected to the net using my ethernet connection, but I dont want to keep my HTPC connected via ethernet, I want to move it elsewhere and use my wireless card.

-I tried installing LMCE whilst connected with my wireless card previously, but it just kept losing its connection and didn't install, so I played it safe this time connected via ethernet-

I can change to using my wlan0 in KDE using the network manager and successfully connect to the net; however, in LMCE network settings the network card is still displayed as eth0.

When I reboot, my pc doesn't automatically connect to the net. I have to do it manually by entering KDE, and the network settings in LMCE still show eth0 as my external network card.

How do I change the default network card for LMCE??

Users / My audio has gone!
August 22, 2007, 09:26:14 AM
I finished installing everything I needed for LMCE (remote, vfd, tv card etc..) and then rebooted into the av wizard to change my monitor output to TV (as I prefered to do all the installing at my desk rather han in front of the tv).
But I get to audio, select analog (as I did on first boot) and theres no sound!

I have onboard sound that doesn't work, but I have an Audigy2 zs pp sound card fitted.

So I enter KDE and the welcome sound still works. Just to make sure, I set the alsa default sound card to audigy2 and typing in alsamixer brings up the Audigy2 mixer.

So then I reneter LMCE, reload router and still no sound....reboot, and still no sound!

I tried selecting Audigy in the soundcard section under media directors in web admin, but that didn't work either.

Anyone have any ideas as to why this happened? Or even better, have a solution?

Is there anyway of seeing which soundcard LMCE is trying to use?

Cheers
