Users / Re: Hardware to MD instead of Eeebox
« on: June 05, 2009, 01:44:36 pm »
Hi,

I had searched the forum to find out what hardware I should buy to my first MD. In the beginning I was sure it would be an Eeebox, but as I've read along it seems that it is not capable of full HD playback? Which motherboard, cpu and graphiccard is peferred in a MD (iam sure I can find a case on my own  ;) ). Iam thinking of putting ~2GB memory in it, thats pretty much all there is to it?

I quess my biggiest question goes on which motherboard and CPU I should buy. I would be nice if the MD could handle full HD playback + sourround sound etc.

And finally (as inspiration) what are you running your MD on?

I bought a MD for 170 euro delivered to my house.
It had a MB(Foxconn) + CPU Atom 330 + Intel GM950, case + powersupply, 2GB
Worked almost out of the box, I only had to change AMD to i386.

Got the hybrid setup down stairs, however trying to add a diskless MD upstrairs, it freezes at 'IP-Config: eth0 hardware addess *mac* mtu 1500 DHCP RARP

Any ideas what is going wrong here? The network setup and all defaults with the core being the only DHCP server.

I have a problem with the diskless MD also (another problem).
In my search on the forum I came around this http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=5740.0 topic

Installation issues / Re: Black screen after installation is finished

I dorked around with this for days trying to figure it out.  It did not dawn on me until I read the AV Wizard instruction for the 100th time.  Here is a fix in my case.

NEW INSTALL/SETUP - If your initial output is DVI - it won't work (so I've discovered with 0710RC2), you must put a DVI to VGA plug on the DVI output and then you should see the AV Wizard.    I have done this on all 4 of my MD's and they are now working.

When I did this, it appeard that my system had been booting the entire time correctly and got to the UI1 screen.  I'd been pressing every stupid number button imagineable.

Hope this helps.

Tried the numbers didn't help, DVI to VGA worked.
For some reason it used the DVI head on my card instead of the VGA one.  No monitor was connected to the DVI output though.
Pressed 2 (for VGA) and waited for the beeps several times, eventually I tried all numbers nothing helped untill I read somewhere about the DVI to VGA solution.
