Installation issues / Re: NVIDIA 7600 Installation issues

When you have the blinking cursor check to see if there is a /etc/X11/xorg.conf  if not try copying one thats in that directory ie xorgplutoavwizard or something like that to xorg.conf wait 30 seconds or so and see if avwizard pops up.

there is one, in fact i edited the xorg.conf file a few times to use vesa & nv driver instead, and yes saw the avwizard come up, however I'm trying to get linuxMCE up and running w/ compatibility for my gfx card & its driver, but that appears to be too near impossible :-/

Do you think I would get rid of my problems if I try taking the CD install route instead?

1. Installing the KUbuntu CD
2. Get all video drivers up and running
3. Then install the LMCE CD

Is this more stable or will the last CD change anything in my videodriver setup?
well I just tried this route; installed kubuntu CD, shutdown x to install 1.0-96xx series drivers, rebooted to see loading kubuntu screen, then it simply goes to a blackscreen with a blinking cursor :X Anyone know whats going on?? I followed all the steps from the wiki http://wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/Display_Drivers

okay so it seems the nvidia driver is either broken or not installing right (even after following the above steps from the other thread). here's what I did for a test:

CTRL+ALT tap F2
login
sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf
change the video driver from driver...."nvidia" to:
driver...."nv"

now reboot and you'll see the av wizard. however this still doesn't really solve the issue as it's obviously preferred to be using drivers from nvidia for video playback etc all the features of LinuxMCE...really need to get this going still.

I have the same problem, no onboard video here either, running an Nvidia Ti 4200. When i loaded LinuxMCE from the DVD ISO it got me stuck earlier w/ blank screen, so I did it one at a time: Kubuntu install then from there used CD ISO's of LinuxMCE, after it installed everything and rebooted, I get the exact same scenario :(

When I his 1-0 on the keyboard the monitor comes back on and I get funny noises from the PC, then see dcerouter login for what appears to be ubuntu, then it quickly flickers away again and the monitor goes off. No one knows whats going on here?

Installation issues / Black screen after Kubuntu loader
« on: December 18, 2007, 03:08:31 am »
My system is hanging after using the DVD installer, it has completed kubuntu installation it seems and after loading kubuntu I see a quick screen which appears to be loading ubuntu, then a few weird high pitched noises from the computer and it's hanging on a black screen :X Tried switching the DVI input to VGA and the same thing, rebooted a few times and the same result.

I'm installing LinuxMCE on a box with 3 SATA drives, 1 which has XP loaded already, and 2 which are for storage. The 20gb PATA drive is the installation drive, and yes is set in BIOS as default loader (it's also Primary master). When i boot into windows to check out how the PATA drive w/ the partially loaded LinuxMCE is doing, windows doesn't recognize the drive and Partition Magic shows "BAD" on the drive...any help???

PS: yes the HD is okay, I used it in my last system config for 6+ months with no issues

Installation issues / Hard Drive question
« on: December 17, 2007, 01:12:42 am »
I'm setting up my PC to run LinuxMCE now and have a plethera of Hard Drives to choose to run as the OS and am wondering about the performance if I were to use my smallest 20gb Maxtor 2mb cache 7200 RPM. It's old and pretty much useless and I would thus like it to be the OS drive, but am wondering if it will affect the performance of the machine. It's a Opteron 139 CPU with 2.25gb ddr2 pc4200, will the hard drive be a severe enough bottleneck to create any issues, or should it run LinuxMCE alright?
