Ok, it works with the disk_copy utility...

But now why doesn't it work with the interface? Is it a known bug? Do I have to fill a bug report somewhere?

I checked, and DVD CSS is installed, it must come from something else.

When I put the Transformers DVD, it is recognized and I get the chapter titles, DVD names and so on, and the ripping works.

When I put the other DVDs, I don't get the informations and the ripping doesn't work, I get the "You can only rip media stored on a CD/DVD drive" message.

you should try from a terminal /usr/pluto/bin/disk_copy to see if this works.

Ok it asks me the source to copy from, but I can't find where my DVD reader is mounted. Can you help me with that?

The strange thing is I have been able to rip one DVD, a stupid Transformers commercial DVD I received, but the other DVDs I have tried didn't work. I'm thinking if it's not because the two other DVDs I tried haven't been recognized, they are french DVDs, from Las Vegas Parano and Evil Dead 2 and they don't seem to be recognized by the player.

Hi,

I've been able to launch a Media Director via PXE, and make it work, thanks for your advices.

Now I'm trying to watch a DVD on the Media Director, and rip it. Watching the DVD seems to go alright (the only trouble is with the image sizing, it's full screen where it shouldn't be, so the image is a bit stretched... I'm searching to fix this too.)

But when I try to rip the DVD, I choose the place where to save the ripped file, say OK and I get a message that says "You can only rip media stored on a CD/DVD drive."

I really don't understand why I'm getting this message... I'm ripping it from a CD/DVD drive  :-[.

Has someone a clue about this?

Thanks

You will see on the screen of the MD a message "We announced ourselves to the server. Use an orbiter to continue "
when you install LMCE, you can install as a core or as an hybrid:
If you choose the hybrid installation, you will get a On-Screen Orbiter on the hybrid. This way, when a new MD is recognized, on the orbiter you will get a message to confirm the installation for the new MD.
If you choose the core installation, you should use an Xp orbiter to continue with the installation of the new MD.

I've choosed a core installation, so I have to have an orbiter to continue the installation of the new MD? So, if I understand well I have to have a Windows XP, install the orbiter application, connect to the server and then I can continue the installation of my MD? No easier way to do that? I don't really have a Windows XP installed PC to install the Orbiter software...

you should have Diskless_Setup.sh running there.

What do you mean? I should launch Diskless_Setup.sh on the server?

Hi,

I don't understand something with how the media directors work in LinuxMCE. I've installed LinuxMCE on a fresh Ubuntu install, configured it via pluto admin, everything went well. Now I'd like to configure a media director, so I've followed the instructions of this page of the wiki, that means configured the BIOS of the computer to boot via network (PXE). Everything looks to go well, and I get the "We announced ourselves to the router. Use a Orbiter to continue.", and here I'm stuck.

I don't really understand where I should have an orbiter working? On the server? How can I configure an Orbiter to work? I thought I was going to have the graphical interface on the Media Director, and be able to control it via an IR remote control (as a MythTV or Windows Media Center).

Can someone help me with that? Thanks.

Installation issues / LinuxMCE installer Proxy configuration
« on: March 29, 2007, 12:57:38 pm »
Hi,

I'm having some troubles with the LinuxMCE installer. I'm behind a proxy and its configuration doesn't seem to be detected by the software.

I've configured the proxy in Ubuntu under System > Preferences > Network Proxy. I've tried to use the automatic proxy configuration as well as the manual configuration. I've also added the line :
http_proxy="myproxy:myport"
in the /etc/environment file.

The proxy is working in the terminal windows, in firefox and in other gnome apps.

When I launch the "Install Linux MCE" shortcut, it first asks if I want to install the media playback and remote control. I choose Yes, and click Forward. There it freezes for several time and I eventually get a window that says that it couldn't connect to the internet and asks if I want to configure my network manually.

Even after configuring manually the network, it doesn't seem to work, I always get a network connection failed kind of message.

Someone has an idea or has had the same trouble?

Thanks
