Users / Re: 710,810,1004 or what?

New to LMCE, running 1004.  Definitely needs work.  Very frustrated.

Update repo's are old and some don't work.  Phone setup is extremely difficult. There's no documentation on how to choose a template for a device not in the list.  For instance I'm trying to setup a Grandstream GPX-2000, a business class SIP phone.  No idea if I can use a current template or if I have to create my own.  No idea how to create a templates.

Phones wizard is missing.

There's no solid documentation on how to setup asterisk in LMCE using a TDM card, only sip/iax trunks.

I like the idea of LMCE but documentation is poor.

Hardware suggestions are confusing, they don't seem to be very current.

I'd be willing to help with documentation, I'm a technical writer, but I need to see it work.

Maybe 1004 is not what I need to start with, even though you suggest that as a starting point.

Installation issues / Re: 10.04 "add software" never populates.

Update...the problem here is that the sources.list file as is distributed in the dvd iso is incorrect.  The medibuntu references need to be replace with another repo.  Please fix this so others don't have this same problem.

After getting libdvdcss2 installed, I can play dvds, old and new.  Still not sure how to get a gpg public key for the repo that replaced medibuntu.

Ok, made the changes to the sources list.  As indicated, it squawked about the gpg key.

But according to their published list, it is libdvdcss2. libdvdread4 and libdvdnav4 were current on my system.

I was able to get libdvdcss2 and it appears to have installed however the gpg key thing suggested didn't work.

When I ran ". /usr/pluto/bin/dvd-installer.sh ; gpgUpdate"  my sources.list file reverted back to the one with the medibuntu.org in it.   Any other way to generate a key for this?

Thanks for the help, but it was no help.

When I ran "sudo apt-get install libdvdcss libdvdread4 libdvdnav4", I got "Package libdvdcss is not available, but is referred to by another package...blah blah blah...is missing, has been obsolete or is only available from another source.  E:Package libdvdcss has no installation canditate."

when I run "sudo apt-get update", I get may errors,..."Something wicked happened resolving 'packages.medibuntu.org...no address associated with that name.....".  I get a pile of them near the end of the run.

How can I make sure my repos are set right, and how do I know they are set right?

Also, a newbie question....once you start KDE desktop, how do you get back?  Just launch the script in the window at the top?  Doesn't that leave KDE running?

Installation issues / 10.04 "add software" never populates.
« on: January 16, 2014, 05:05:17 am »
I spent a ton of time searching the forums for my individual issue but none seemed to apply.
Fresh core/hybrid install of 10.04 (downloaded a couple days ago). Hardware is Dell Dimension E521, AMD 64 x2 4200+ with 4 GB Ram, 250GB HD, DVD RW drive.  Everything seemed to go well...at least I didn't catch any errors.

I went through the setup wizard ok and got it working as expected.  Detected all my devices with no issues.

I popped in a DVD, it detects the disc but will not play...says it's defective or dvdcss is not installed.  I read that was necessary for play of encrypted discs.  After some searching I read I could install it via "add software" or command line.  I tried add software first and it just opens a page with a black window with nothing in it.  I thought maybe it took time for it to build the list but it never populates.  So I went to the KDE desktop and opened a Konsole and ran sudo apt-get update, then sudo apt-get install kubuntu-restricted-extras.  It looked like it installed a lot of packages etc. Then I restarted the server.

I tried loading my copy of Ironman 2 and got a message the disc was detected, then a message that it was either damaged or dvdcss was not installed.

Not much good as a media center if you can't even play a dvd.

Any help would be appreciated.
