Hi l3mce,

During my last test, when I installed Nvidia 290.10, and latest alsa, I was able to get output from the aplay -l command, with more than one line, think about 3-5 lines.  I started over again, but this is what I remember from my tests.

Thanks,

Dan

I did that test, and none of them worked.

Hi l3mce,

I started over again.

This time the process went smoother until the Wizard, where I chose 1080p and Voice over HDMI.

Now, the MD has restarted, and in the first screen, (I think Sarah talking ) There is no video, and no sound. (can only see a black box).

I installed the alsa modules, but the rest were already installed.

I think, even if it works, I wouldn't go with a non supported solution.

I would go to the standard version, if audio could be supported.

For me it has been a very frustrating experience working for almost two weeks to get the system up and running. I am testing 4 computers, with different display cards. Still, I cannot say I had a working solution, as no sound, and no audio.

i can delete the md from the core, and restart over, but sound will be the issue, if I get the driver working again. is there anything extra that should be done ?

Do I need to backup the current config or machine?

Thanks,

Dan

Hi l3mce,

Sorry to send you output on different posts, but I just forgot to include the first command you sent:
amixdigital=$(amixer | grep Simple | grep IEC | cut -d' ' -f4,5,6 | sort | uniq); for output in $amixdigital; do amixer sset $output unmute; done
root@moon31:/home/sysadmin# echo $amixdigital

root@moon31:/home/sysadmin#

as far as I can tell, amixer doesn't return any value.

Regards,

Dan

Hi l3mce,

Ok, I actually went a little further with the installation. Installed latest nvidia driver, 290.10, disabled the auto load of nvidia driver in the nvidia script (/usr/pluto/bin/nvidia_install..sh), then went through the setup, and chose hdmi, resolution 1080p, all went ok, and restarted the md, with no issues, which went started to display photos / slide show.
The problem now is sound. I try to play any movie, just nothing happens, and after looking at the Xine_Player.log :

Hi l3mce,

Another progress,

I passed that problem of the Orbiter not starting.

Now, I can see a screen with menus, seems to be the third option of the menus (opengl...). However, the mouse only responds, but no menu works, and seems to be frozen from the clock, which stopped as soon as it started.

I didn't run the apt-get for nvidia yet.

Cheers,

Hi l3mce,

Before getting your reply, I tried to reboot the MD, and I was surprised that it started with the AV Wizard, which I completed succesfully with 1080p, although sound is not working now, but just trying complete this part. Then it started to update and perform different services restart on the core and md. After an hour, checking the logs on the MD, I found nothing is happening, with a message on the screen restarting core devices. So I rebooted the md. everything goes well, starting in 1080p, then a message on the screen: Starting device 33 OnScreen Orbiter, and for an hour again, nothing is happening!

Now, should I run the apt-get install nvidia command ?

Can I setup the sound over HDMI if it works ?

Thanks l3mce,

Installation issues / MediaDirector Fails to start
« on: January 02, 2012, 05:26:31 pm »
Hi All,

After a week of attempts to install lmce, trying not to give up with all the issues, I had reached a stage where the media director boots from the core, and downloads the nvidia driver. However, it eventually hangs forever, and nothing happen. I checked the logs for Xorg, and can see errors with the nvidia driver.
I am using Nvidia GT 430, and expect to have HDMI Sound.
I am using LMCE 8.10.
Running a core on a pc, and a Media director on another one.

Is there a way to have the driver updated to the latest release of 290.10? I appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Dan
