I had SABnzbd, transmission-daemon, and flexget running on my LinuxMCE 10.04 box for a while - worked great.  Then one day I checked out the OpenMediaVault project to see how it was progressing and decided it was time to give it a go.  Well, the test was successful (it's fantastic!) and I decided to move all the media download managers to the OMV box instead.  Actually, my OMV "box" is really a viritual machine (KVM to be exact).

LMCE would benefit from having these great applications integrated from the get go.  However, it's not difficult to install them on your own after the fact.

Oh, this little exercise also made me realize that I have to move to XBMC for my media management.  LMCE just isn't cutting it for me in this area and that's all I use LMCE for.  Thus, I'm turning my LMCE server into a KVM host and will virtualize LMCE.  A network bootable XBMC image will run from another KVM on the same host.  I'll still use LMCE for whole home audio (still to be setup) and other home automation coolness.

no.

Neato! I guess I'll just do an update then.

Should I do a fresh install, or can I keep using my current 10.04 install?  I guess what I'm asking is, am I missing anything by not installing the snapshot.  So, am I?

So I ran it on my 10.04 system (mine is not based on a recent snapshot).  I see no problems so far with the core or my lone MD.  I did initially have sound over HDMI issues - it didn't work!  I ran alsamixer and chose the HDMI sound card, which fixed the problem.

Keep in mind with the 1004 snapshot that everything is embedded. You do not need to run Diskless_CreateTBZ.sh anymore. Just get your core install finished, and plug MDs in. If you run into any issues, please let me know. I am usually available in irc as well for troubleshooting.

Would one get this "embedded" feature only via a fresh core install from a recent snapshot, or is it also implemented for those who are running the latest 10.04 code through updates/upgrades?

btw, want to say big ups to m3freak for the workup on this.

Don't mention it.  I'm glad I got my problem resolved, but if it helps you out with LinuxMCE overall, it's a bonus! :)

BTW, I've noticed lately I'm having problems getting some MKVs to play that played before without any issue.  I don't remember the exact error - I'll have to recreate it.  I'll start a new thread for this new problem.

Here is what I am going to do... I am going to automate the process and make it available in web-admin... so you can just select an upgraded alsa version if your hardware requires it, keeping the rest of the world on our rock solid version.

My only fear is the people who think that they HAVE to have the newest bluest, and break something trying to get it, simply because it is there. I will try and adequately warn users not to select it if they don't need it.

This sounds yummy.  Can't wait to see it.

Hold off for a min.

I am changing a LOT of things.

I already got the audio working manually.  But, I can delete the MD and go through the entire process again, no problem.  Just let me know when I can pull down updates on the core and restart the MD build.

So please list what the hardware is, and how it reacts. Thanks.

I deleted my running MD - it was acting weird.   Plus, it gave me the opportunity to properly test the new video card detection.

My Jetway ran through the setup and although the video part worked (just as before), the HDMI audio wasn't setup correctly (just as before).  I'll have  to use my "hdmi how to" get the audio working for my particular MD.

My MD is off at the moment, so I can't give the lspci output right now.  I'll post again later today with the info you requested.

Well... you will have to update pluto-boot-scripts and pluto-avwizard, first of all.

Already ran an update a couple of days ago - I'm set.

Then you can run Diskless_CreateTBZ.sh

Did that earlier today.

Your old MD is fine as it is. That data is already configured. It MAY take you through AVWizard the next time it reboots.

Ok.

Your new MD will use the new code. You are not likely to notice any difference really unless this MD is an ATI, Intel, or VIA video chipset. However should it break something that currently works, that is equally useful.

So please list what the hardware is, and how it reacts. Thanks.

Understood - will do.

I want to help test.  I already have a working MD, plus one new MD waiting to be deployed (bedroom wiring not yet ready).

If I run Diskless_CreateTBZ.sh again, I have to delete the working MD in order to test it, correct?

« on: March 20, 2012, 05:25:01 pm »
Honestly the only reason that I poked my head in, was because it was the second RAID issue I had seen, which often indicates a looming problem... and... the only thing I can think of that has changed recently that deals with RAID is the StorageDevices_Radar.sh, which I rewrote... however that has nothing to do with creation, but how the system discovers them. So if it was my rewrite that broke it, I will do whatever is necessary to fix it. If I didn't break it, I will still loan you the extent of my knowledge on the subject.

You might be interested in my comment to the ticket: http://svn.linuxmce.org/trac.cgi/ticket/1418 .

Keep in mind, we are all volunteer... and all have lives outside of this free project, so sometimes needs cannot be met the minute they arise.

Oh, I completely understand that.  I let the thread hang around for a long time before I caved and just did the RAID setup by hand.

In any case, I'm now moving the data off the md RAID array onto another disk in preparation for the RAID redo.  I'll post here if things start working correctly afterwards.

I didn't want to create a ticket until I was sure I had encountered a bug.

The first time around I DID use LinuxMCE to create the RAID array - it just didn't behave correctly. I did have another thread about that problem and asked repeatedly for help, but no one replied.  When that happened, I started to do my own thing.

I'm not used to using a Linux distro that does this much hand holding.  I have to get used to just giving control over to the OS (but only for LinuxMCE!).

Well... you are going to want to create it in web admin like you did to begin with, and then fix the problem there.

Take a look at http://svn.linuxmce.org/trac.cgi/ticket/1418

Working on a real fix. Until then try that.

I've done the mdadm.conf part - that's why it's surviving reboots.

If I create it in the web admin, won't my data get wiped?  I don't want to do that.
