Alaith, please create a wiki or create another post to discuss the usage of Review Board (possibly providing screenshots or videos).

Done and Done ... http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Review_Board

3. Updates to code:
If someone wants to correct an issue or correct a feature, this person would need to be plugged into either the PRB or community leader in order to be assigned via the TRAC system and have access to the latest build to update.

In terms of code updates, I've got a few questions. (sorry if TRAC does this already, but I'm not familiar with it)

What is in place currently to review changes to the codebase? Is there a system in place to do group reviews of code (before it is submitted to the svn)?

I believe that it is always good to have more eyes on code. It would probably be good to lay down a method to review all changes before they are submitted. The company I work for uses Review Board (http://review-board.org/). We find it very useful to keep track of what is being submitted to the code base, and catching small errors before they get entered into the SVN.

I think that going forward, and as more people (who may be inexperienced) join LinuxMCE. That LinuxMCE would benefit from a code review process.

Installation issues / Re: Networking Issue: No External IP
« on: July 12, 2009, 06:25:26 am »
Changing back to the right subnet for the internal card fixed my external IP issues. Which, in my mind, doesn't make much sense, but it worked so I guess that's something. I feel really ignorant now :S

I guess I figured that since it was changeable, that it wouldn't be so critical which subnet I ran on ...

Thanks for your help!

Probably, AUS is a long way away from US servers unfortunately. It would be an interesting experiment if these larger files could be downloaded by p2p ... I know that is way beyond the scope of linuxMCE, but I still think it's a neat thought.

Alaith - why did you automatically assume the "servers" are in the US?! Its in Vienna, Austria, Hari runs it. The capacity is not unlimited, and this is a half gig file it is downloading, probably with several other people downloading at the same time. The RTT from AU to AT is around 350ms which could mean TCP's congestion control algorithm throttles things a bit, but not down the level we are talking about here... it is far more likely to be just the load on the server.

Ahh ... okay sorry for being naive. I'm not sure why I assumed that the server was in the US. With new data centers (and private servers it seems) popping up all over the place I shouldn't be so sure anymore.
My mistake.

Thank you very much for the reply.

I just changed it from 80 because 100 is the subnet I have almost always used. I'll change it back to 80 and see if that fixes anything.

My network architecture is:  Cable Modem --> Core --> Switch --> MD(s)

The cable modem was provided by my ISP and is not configurable. I am able to get leases on my other systems when I connect them in place of the core.

we don't have a slider designobj at the moment. The lighting floorplan uses buttons for the different % levels in a row. Was talking to tschak about new elements, but that requires some work.

br, Hari
yeah but we'd need levels for red, green and blue. The regular set level adjusts all of them. For now I just have scenario buttons for my favorite R/G/B levels. But it would be cool to be able to adjust each of them on the floorplan, too.

best regards,
Hari

This may be silly as I'm not familiar with how powerful the floorplan is, but why don't you just use some sort of entry box so that you can type the level of each RGB value?

The MD's CPU and RAM.

The diskless boot system of linuxMCE is not the same idea as thin clients.

Personally, I think it looks very professional, but the Forum and the Wiki should not be wrapped, just linked to (unless they can be made to look part of the new site, rather than wrapped in it.)

Good work though!

Agreed! And a more prominent link for the Wiki would probably help since that is where people are supposed to look first for answers to their questions.

Installation issues / Networking Issue: No External IP
« on: July 10, 2009, 07:02:36 am »
Hello everyone,

I'm trying to set up my Core for the first time, but my external IP seems to be missing from the Web admin. The cards are correctly assigned as eth0 for the external card and eth1 for the internal card. I've been documenting my progress on my wiki page http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/User:Alaith#Troubleshooting. If you could take a look at the Wiki page and advise I would be very grateful.

I've done a lot of searching, but I don't think that this has been covered yet. Maybe I missed an obscure post, in which case, could someone direct me to it?

Thanks!

You may want to try a simple X10 switch to a motorized pool valve or zone valve (used in radiant heating).

I'd think you could just hook the X10 to an electronic solenoid. They are used to switch on and off water to electric sprinkler systmes. I've gotten them at my local hardware big box store for about $30 I think. I used it to build an electronically fired potato cannon, but I'm sure it would work just as well for what it was originally intended.

This would be a really cool feature.
I'd love to be able to see if there was anyone nearby with a LinuxMCE setup.

Hi Everyone, I'm looking to start my first LinuxMCE installation, and am wondering if this hardware will work with linux MCE as a Thin Media Director. Any suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated as well!
