This issue is still occurring in 0810 - Any of you guru's out there have any ideas for a workaround?

I hate to raise this one from the dead, but I am having the same issue on both of my MDs. DVD Rips play fine on my core/hybrid and lower quality MP4 movies play fine on all machines, but when playing a dvd rip on either MD I get freezing occur at various times throughout playback. I have read through this entire thread (and a couple others on the subject) and none of the suggestions help. All of my drives are formatted EXT3. I am running GigE throughout my house so I didn't think it could be a networking issue but based on the symptoms thats all I can think of and I have no idea how to tweak it. I am new to Linux, so any help you can give me on checking NIC configurations would be appreciated.

Thanks Colin, but unfortunately it gave the same results: got through the AVWizard with no problem but started cycling the same error message over and over: I did however notice a section of the error that I had not seem before because the screen scrolled through too fast. It said:

DCOPClient :: attachinternal. Attach Failed Could not open network socket.

The rest of the errors then came after that. Any help would be appreciated.

Well we are definitely getting somewhere. I followed those steps and they worked perfectly (thanks Matt). I booted the MD and finally got into and completed the AVWizard. I fully expected it then to finish up and go into lmce but no instead I get the following:

*Reloading /etc/samba/smb.conf
kdeinit:Can't connect to the X server
kdeinit: Might not terminate at the end of the session
DCOP aborting call from 'anonymous-9258' to 'kded': ERROR communication problem with kded, it probably crashed

Then it repeats the following message continuously:
lmce_launch_manager: cannot connect to X server :0

I can shift between tty1, tty2 etc with no problem but it definitely will not connect or start X. Is this possibly something to do with the PCI NIC I am using?

  I am a complete newb here so please treat me as such, I am trying my best to be a Linux convert but years of windoze use has addled my brain.

I didn't update the drivers on the MD as I have never been able to get to a prompt of any kind on the MD, instead I updated the drivers on my core, with the thought (maybe the wrong thought) that when I rebuilt the MD image it would push those drivers out to the new image. Am I completely off track?

rocketlynx / anyone did you ever get this working as a diskless MD? I just read through the entire thread hoping to find the solution to all my M3N78-EM woes but there isn't a solution that worked for me in here.

My onboard NIC is disabled and I have a PCI NIC in its place that works fine for net booting from the core.
The MD was set as an i386 MD and image rebuilt to overcome the initial boot issues.
I got to the point that the screen is cycling but AVWizard never shows, I updated the nvidia driver to the latest from their site (180.60) on the core and again rebuilt the MD image but it still just sits there with the screen cycling. I can't hit any combo of keys to escape from it and am totally stuck, would appreciate anyones suggestions.

Just wanted to let everyone that may search and find this that I installed a rosewill RC-400 Gigabit PCI NIC (realtek 8169 chipset) and used Rom-o-matic to created a bootable cd-rom (no floppy drive in my setup). I disabled the on-board NIC and the machine boots to the PCI NIC with no problems, I am still having display issues but that is another post. Thanks to everyone that replied, really good information...the hardest part was finding a cheap gigabit card to work with Rom-o-matic and the RC-400 was only $9.99 with free shipping, can't beat that!

Thanks for the info, that is what I will try. My mobo only enables boot ROM if the onboard NIC is enabled, so I will have to go the gPXE route. Just tried this and unfortunately I get an error on the very fist step...

I just bought all the components for an MD in my family room, did a load of research and selected the created the quietest machine I could create. For some unknown reason I completely missed the fact that the integrated NIC on the ASUS M3N78-EM (http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/ASUS_M3N78-EM) isn't recognized by MCE 0710 so obviously the diskless setup fails.

The page above suggests upgrading the kernel in order to fix to allow the NIC to work, I am a Linux newb and upgrading the kernel scares the cr@p out of me, especially after reading all the warnings about all the things it can break.

My question is this,if I buy a $10 NIC and throw it in a PCI slot and disable the integrated NIC can I pxeboot from it? If so, is there anything I need to know when considering the card?

The printer is a Canon Pixma iP6700D.

Seth, tried joining my PCs to the LINUXMCE worlkgroup but still no joy. I notice that when I send a test page to the printer it shows as Spooling and the Printing, after a while the print queue shows the status as Paused then it drops off the queue altogether. Makes no sense at all!! It's too much of a coincidence that this happened at exactly the same time as my core came online for the first time.

I had the same thought and checked but the printer doesn't even show up there and because I can't get a Linux driver for this printer its not like I can add it manually either. This is very frustrating, the windows machines really believe that they have successfully printed whatever document I print, but nothing comes out. I have to think that the core has done something to the config of the NAS that is affecting this.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, all windows machine are on the internal network and I can connect to the printer either by IP or name. I can happily browse to and read/write from the share on the NAS from all of the Windows machines, but still printing eludes me...

Just setup my LinuxMCE system without too many issues at all but this one definitely has me stumped. First let me point out that I am a Linux newb, so be gentle.
I have a D-Link DNS-323 NAS that has a built-in print server (Canon PiXma IP6700D attached) that was working perfectly before I bought my Core online. My core is now running my network (dual NICs etc) and I just noticed that all of my windows machines can no longer print to the printer on the NAS.
I am fairly sure that there is some sort of permissions issue going on as I get "access denied" errors if I try to delete a job sent to the printer. The Windows machines seem to connect to the printer fine but flat refuse to print test pages or anything else. I did manage to get one print job out, after restarting the NAS but it wont print anymore after that. The NAS is added as a device within MCE and I have a single share (no security on it) that works really well for media in/out.
Any suggestions would be appreciated as their doesn't seem to a printer driver for my printer under Linux so I can't move it over to the core and share it out from there.
