but its feasible and if anybody has questions on the details...

just ask :-D

I use this MB in my hybrid device with 710...
It works fine...
During install it is easier to add a PCI NIC to have internet access during kernel update and installation but it can be removed after installation. just follow the instructions in the wiki posted above...

Installation issues / Re: Asus motherboard "M3N78-EMH HDMI"

jip ;-)
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Upgrading_the_Kernel

I'm sucessfully running LinuxMCE 710 single sided DVD installer... on ASUS M3N78-EM

In short what you have to do: (some of this is already posted in the wiki)

Add a simple PCI NIC to the board for the installation... You will need it to get Internetconnection for downloads during installation. But after installation you can remove it, because the onboard NIC will work ;-))

1. Changing the SATA mode in the BIOS to AHCI
2. Install from DVD (I choose 32bit, because there were some problem reports of other users using 64bit)
3. After reboot select recovery mode from Grub menu
4. upgrade to actual kernel with the link posted above
(don't forget to include the Intel HDA, the PHY drivers and the Realtek Network support.
5. compile new alsa (i chose actual one) everything works fine except of the Audio over HDMI (aplay -l shows the HDMI audio device but I can't hear sound)
6. install NVIDIA drivers http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_180.29.html

After reboot and configuring the LMCE just Flip the network cards in the Webinterface and remove the additional NIC...

and now the hard data: (:-))
nvidia driver: 180.29
linux kernel: 2.6.28.7
alsa version: 1.0.19

only problem left:
No sound via HDMI (<- but I don't need it yet)

Users / Re: audio on every available device possible?
« on: March 02, 2009, 11:17:05 am »
ok... this problem is partially solved...
I found out, that when I set the frontoutput to plughw:0 in xine.conf and choose manually configuration in linuxmcesetup... The sound is available at spdif and analog output...

I didn't manage to get sound via hdmi yet, but that seems to be related to the NVIDIA Chipset (ASUS M3N78-EM)... with actual kernel and alsa configuration the HDMI out appears at aplay -l... but its not possible to hear sound...

Users / audio on every available device possible?
« on: February 26, 2009, 07:45:53 pm »
I'm running LinuxMCE 710 on an Asus M3N78-EM...
every works quite fine and I can play sound on every output if I choose it in the AVWizard...
Due to some analog speakers (in another room) i want to double the sound to the analog output of my soundcard...

Is it possible to play the sound on SPDIF optical and analog output simultaniously?

From Hardware it should be possible because i'm able to play an mp3 file on SPDIF with linuxmce and another mp3 file on analog output via KDE Desktop...

Can anybody tell me the configuration change I have to make for simultanious audio output?

Who knows a good and actual mainboard witch is supported by Ubuntu 710/810...

.. and provides
- onboard Graphic with HDMI (including sound)
- onboard sound with optical SPDIF
- enough Power for Dual DVBS-2
- UI2
- MicroATX Formfactor
- minimized power consumption...

Did I forget a feature???

Users / Re: why does mainboard choice matter so much? (core)
« on: February 02, 2009, 02:16:17 pm »
sorry, but I don't think that the mainboard for the core (this is asked here (look at the title)) is not very critical...
As thedaver mentioned, the grafic can be disabled and shure you don't nead hdmi or what else...

you should look for a fast ethernet and low power consumption...

For a hybrid machine it becomes critical...

I didn't find a threat for the hybrid question so i will start a new one ;-)

« on: February 02, 2009, 01:54:02 am »
ok.... now it runs....

I wasn't able to fix the problem... so I decided to try it the microsoft way...

complete new installation Linux MCE 710 from DVD....
But now I installed the drivers of the dvb-card before I installed VDR....

I don't know if this was the trick but now everything works....

Thanks to all your suggestions...

ok... update... this plugins are installed: checked

streamdev-server
streamdev-client
control
xineliboutput

the problem sure is connected to the disapperance of the changes in the setup.conf

ok... so this is not my problem i think...
but what do i have to put in the setup.conf of vdr in this case...
both?? core and md lines???

so i tried all possibilities and i think there have to be both lines..

but the problem is that the config file is overwritten when i stop the vdr as described above ;-)
i dont understand that

wow... client missing... trying again...

ahhh ;-)
sure

ok...

Searching for lugins (VDR1.6.0-1/1.6.0) (cache hit): stremdev-server control xineliboutput.

... is the output.

so i think every thing is ok there...

perhaps its a bad question... but i installed from dvd singlesided version 710...
I didn't care about core/md setup because i didnt know anything...

does this dvd install a hybrid automatically???
oder do i have core only and this is my problem?

greetings
Christian

Yes I stopped the VDR befor I made the changes...
Then I started it to see whether the changes make a difference...
But when I stop VDR again after testing... The changes are gone
(like described above)

how can I check if the relevant plugins are correctly installed and whether they are running?

thank you for the fast answer ;-)

Yes I follow the supposed howto...

I just checked the /var/lib/vdr/setup.conf and found that it is overwritten everytime I stop the vdr process...

more precise:
1. I stop the vdr by /etc/init.d/vdr stop
2. I edit /var/lib/vdr/setup.conf with vi as described in the howto
3. I start the vdr by /etc/init.d/vdr start

now it doest work as before, but the changes in the setup.conf are still there

4. I stop the vdr again as above...

now the changes in the setup.conf are gone :-(

Hello,
I've got problems with the above described configuration...
Everytime I Select TV, I get the following message:
"I cannot play this media. Perhaps there is not a valid device in this entertainment area capable of playing it..."

I set up my LinuxMCE 710 from single sided DVD...
Installed WinTV Nova HD S2 card with drivers... <- works
Searched for channels... <- works
add the channel list with the admin webpage to the vdr configuration <- works
setup the remote control... <- works
VDR starts and I can browse the EPG in VDRAdmin Webpage...

Can anybody help me?
I think I'm close to the goal...

Thanks
christian
