Users / Video not playing

I got LinuxMCE set up on a hybrid box to test it and see if it's something I'd like to implement. Setup went without a hitch, but whenever I try to play any video files I have on my hard drive they start playing, stop instantly, and then I get dropped back to the main screen with the Flickr slideshow. At first I thought it might be a codec issue, but the video plays fine in the Kubuntu media player.
It's an Xvid AVI file, I'm not sure on anything other than that.
Suggestions?
