thanks for the advice, I will do that.  I messed around a bit trying to work out how to install from DVD and was rapidly reaching the conclusion there had to be a better way.

Hi,

I have successfully booted and installed the KDE CD in the DVD drive.  I am now trying to work out if I can install from the LinuxMCE DVD onto the new KUBUNTU install that I have recently done.

it's a DVD-R.  The thing is that the Windows Home Server DVD was burnt on the same machine as the linux MCE one with the same type of disc, and that boots without any problems.
I have made kubuntu 0810 cd and installed that.  So I will try using the DVD to install linux MCE on again tonight.

Hi,

I've got a really strange issue with installation, I can't boot the DVD.

I have ruled out it being a bad download by booting on another machine.

I have ruled out the machine being duff by booting another linux Distro from CD and Windows Home Server from DVD.

Has anyone got any ideas?

In hindsight I guess this post may have been better as a general ubuntu/kernel request.

Would it be possible to create some kind of hardware profiling system that automatically profiles the hardware on your machine and updates a central database?  Rather than just being a list of hardware I was thinking it could be a central repository of drivers that gets updated as people manage to get hardware working.

So for instance when I install LinuxMCE and can't get my VIA graphics card to work straight out of the box, I do some searching on the internet, find the correct drivers and get it working.  I then profile my hardware and the drivers I have used get uploaded to the server, so that the next person who installs LinuxMCE gets out of the box support.

I appreciate that this would probably be very complicated to do, but if it is possible it should enable hardware support to expand much more rapidly and with fewer idiots like me wasting experts time.

I have already installed using the CD method with AMD64 images (should have read this thread first).  Is there a way of adding the i386 diskless images to enable one of my MDs to boot?

Any help greatly appreciated, not sure I can face another install

I have finally managed to get it to work, not quite sure how

Basically I have connected the monitor via DVI, rather than VGA (although AV Wizard thought it was connected via VGA?).  I did briefly manage to get the AV wizard to show with the vga cable but only after starting in recovery mode and then running init 3.

Thanks for advice so far, I will start trying to configure the system.  My next challenge will be getting my Jetway Mini-ITX diskless client going, I had real fun with this in MythBuntu

Without removing quiet and splash screen goes black immedietly.  Doesn't get anywhere near the bleeps (would it do this on KUbuntu CD ?).

Hi All,

I have been playing with MythBuntu for a while now and decided that it was time to give LinuxMCE a whirl.  Visited a computer fair yesterday and bought some new hardware to use as a dedicated Core:

Motherboard:   Asus M2N32-SLI
Graphics:        Asus EN8400GS  (Basically NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS)

I have tried both the CD and DVD installs and get the same result, a black screen with monitor stating no signal immediately after telling it to install.  So I then tried turning off quiet and splash on the KUbuntu CD, it gets further but still no Joy.  I would appreciate any advice on how to get this working, LinuxMCE looks amazing (Well done for all the hard work).  To confirm that the Hardware isn't faulty I have installed MythBuntu 8.10 without any issues.  I am aware of the normal Newbie problem with not selecting the correct output/res and I am sure it isn't this.
