I dont know if zwave can do this, but insteon dimmers have adjustable slew rates, from instant to 10 minutes iirc. the default is 1/2 second vs zwave 2 seconds. they also have separate instant on and fade commands. The one problem with insteon right now is that the code needs some serious rework since it really only supports dimmers and switch modules, but theres no reason you cant mix and match with zwave (i use both in my system). It also bothers some people that there is only one manufacturer of insteon products, but the prices seem reasonable to me.

that second link sums it up quite well; its expensive, complicated, and looks like its fairly closed (no protocols published or api available?), and honestly there are enough players in that market already. ie theres nothing new here that warrants a price premium.

also, not to pick on you specifically, but the developers forum is for people actively working on something, please keep the speculation to one of the other forums.

just because there is only one prize doesnt mean there can only be one winner.
post usable art, for those of us that have little design skills but good coding skills. more than one skin can come out of this.
of course, nobody is going to discourage posting screenshots of work in progress...
personally I think a very good LCARS skin could be made with this. and if someone else doesnt do it i may eventually try. and you dont want that, trust me. you have been warned :)

I have settled on 7" after trying the alternatives as well. a phone works fine for quick scenario changes or something, but is too small for general use. mostly just the convenience of already being on your person. the 10" tablet is a bit unwieldy, particularly for handheld use.

honestly, look into some of the android tablets. they can be had for pretty cheap, but avoid the really really cheap chinese ones. they will work as web orbiters for now, and later on will be great for qorbiter. the real cheap chinese ones tend to not have opengl graphics acceleration, which is going to be important for qorbiter.
I am playing around with a Dell Streak 7" refurb that i got off woot.com last week for around $150 and it looks like it will make a fantastic platform for qorbiter.

if you have the device connected to a computer via usb and have enabled mass storage mode, the sdcard is no longer available to the device.

It is my understanding that the software driver must also be able to deal with the encryption.
I run an insteon plm and an aeon z-stick on my core, they work great together.

A fix has been committed in the above ticket. note that you will still need to run the command "sudo mdadm --detail --scan >> /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf" and reboot once even when the update goes live (and as a workaround until it goes live), but after that this step will be performed any time the RAID configuration is modified.

Installation issues / Re: Installation - Partitioning Issue
« on: February 19, 2012, 07:14:19 pm »
it is more likely a problem with the motherboard hardware, since it cannot see the drive at all. the controller just may be too new to have support in 8.10.
you may want to try 10.04 instead.

also check network cables and switches. check the performance between various devices on the network to look for patterns and find any common failure point.

windows doesnt come with an ssh capable terminal application, but there are some great free ones out there. putty is a very common choice, and recently I have started using mobaxterm since it comes with a few extras (including the ability to remotely display gui applications). you just ssh to 'dcerouter' and use the username/password from when you installed linuxmce.
you will find most instructions for doing things on a linux system will have you typing things into a terminal anyway, so its something you need to get used to :)
anything that can be done in the gui (and many more things that cant) can be done through the command line, and much quicker to boot.

i see user public_mona in the error above...
you arent making things any easier by trying to access stuff from the external network. please try to use the system as it was designed, it was done that way for a reason.
the system also uses nfs, but this is locked down to the internal network so you would need to change that if you wanted to use nfs instead of samba.

it looks like it is because we are forcing the user to "root" for the /home share. i am not sure that we should be doing this, we will need to discuss.

intel support has not changed. there has been some progress towards ati support, but nvidia is still where its at. are you going to let lack of a $20 video card keep you from this project?
