Users / Re: Sound configuration with the movie player
« on: September 03, 2008, 02:36:27 am »
I finally found out how to adjust the volume.

1- Start a movie
2- Go in KDE while the movie is still running (to hear the sound)
3- Open terminal
4- Adjust the volume with Alsa Mixer (sudo alsamixer)
5- Save the configuration (sudo alsactl store)
6- (I don't know why) Go in the KDE's sound setting
7- Change a value and put it back, just to be able to click the "Apply" button and click on it

KDE will restart the sound system and your setting will be saved.

Hope it can help!!!!   ;D

Users / Sound configuration with the movie player

Hello,

LinuxMCE is installed and is working fine but I have some issues with the sound.

What I mean is if I play a mp3 with the audio player, it is working great but a movie with a dvd or a .avi, I have to increase the volume a lot of my tv to have a something descent. I'm pretty sure there is a configuration file somewhere that  set this.

Anyone can help me?

« on: August 05, 2008, 02:12:37 pm »
Hi,

I have a TV Tuner Conexant Falcon II. Is there any howto or wiki or instruction that I could work with?

I never worked with a TV tuner card before I don't think it is very complicated but still need a place to start.

Thanks for any help!!

I finally bought a used HP m7360n.
Up to now it is set up and working fine. I'm still looking around to learn how this software is working but I'm having a lot of fun.
I ran in some problems so I think it is appropriate that I share them with you.
1 - I use an ATI card. (I know it is not recommended but I did not want to spend more money on this system yet)
So I used ENVY to install the ATI drivers and then this wiki (http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Display_Drivers) to disable the composite option.
Use the lightweight, the other settings did not seem to work properly.
2- Since my Internet router is on the second floor, I had to make my wireless work properly
Find the XP drivers for the card
Install ndiswrapper and ndisgtk (with apt-get)
Create the new card
Install wlassistant
configure your wireless access.
3- Trying to play one of my DVD -- Missing dvdcss library
I suppose there are a lot of post for that. So google was my friend and I found (http://www.medibuntu.org/).
*****************************
So everything is working fine up to now.
So is working so far:
- Watching a DVD
- Ripping a DVD (still need to find a way to rip just the movie; RTFM... Yes, I know)
- Connected a USB device and the files are automatically update in the list of available movies.

It is not that far but for one evening, I'm very pround.
****************************
To do:
- Try the TV Tuner
- Set up a network connection with my other PC to share my mp3 (is it possible? I hope so)
- Can my IR receiver control my digital box (an Explorer 3000)? We will see.

Wish me luck and patience. :)

Hello everybody,

I saw the video presentation and I want to install Linux MCE. For this I need a computer that will work.

Did someone try one the HP MediaCenter computer?

I have a choice between 2 models:
HP MediaCenter 7360n (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00585760&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1818344&lang=en)

M8300F (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01297105&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN)

Both of them comes with a remote.

Are you aware of any incompatibility?
Any information will help me a lot.

Regards,

Dany
