I appricate the reply, that's the information I was looking for. Although it sucks I can't upgrade the intel drivers, well at least not without a whole lot of time and determination. One more question that's kinda unrelated. Since I have a diskless Media Director, and that image is streamed from the Core. When I run or make changes in the Media Director, Are those changes streamed back to the core or does it get a new image on every boot.

I know there is a way to change the MD image on the core, and those changes will reflect on the Media Director. But sometimes I find it easier to run a command, or make a setting change directly on the MD.

I have a lattitude D610 Laptop that I'm using as a Media Driector. everything diskless boots well and I go through the AV wizard. I can even watch some videos once everything is all set up. However at a seemingly random occurence the UI will lock up. Sometimes it happens when I'm putting a disk in the drive, Sometimes it happens when I start to play a video and other times it will happen just because it feels like it.

I've done my searching on the forum and followed directions from http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=5830.0 and others.

The solution in that post helped and stopped it from locking up on boot however I still get frequent random lockups and there are a few more features that I'd like to take advantage of (S-video Support being the no. 1) I think some tweeking of the xorg.conf file may help but I think an upgrade of the driver is the best solution Currently the revision of intel drivers do not support S-Video Out. Additionally as I understand it the new intel drivers will not work on LinuxMCE 710 because of the Linux Kernal version.

So,
Question 1: In LinuxMCE 710 is it possible to upgrade the kernel to a version that will support the latest intel drivers. Compile the new drivers and utilize them. Any resources that you can provide to accomplish this task would be greatly appriciated. Step by step is best since I'm still kinda new to the linux world, But learning Fast :-)

Question 2: if I can't upgrade the linux kernal and drivers would it be possible to use the 810alpha for a media director connecting to a 710 core. As I understand it the 810 alpha uses the new linux kernal that can support the new intel drivers. But I do not want my core to become unstable with an alpha release.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Users / USBUIRT How Many Devices Can it Control
February 16, 2009, 11:04:42 PM
I'm spec'ing out my HTPC system and home automation. One thing that I would like to do is control all of my AV devices. like anyone else :-) I have a lot of different components that I'd like to control, Stero, DVD, DVD Recorder, Satelite Box, I'm sure there's something else.

I've been searching the forums and the Wiki and I can't find a whole lot of information on a system that will control all of my devices. So I'm looking for some guidance. I understand the USBUIRT is a great prodoct that works well with LinuxMCE and it's also an IR Reciver and Transmitter.

So My question is how many devices can it control. All devices will be in the same room but in a compartmentalized cabnet. So I'm not sure there will be line of sight for all IR windows. Can the USBUIRT control more then one device(If it's mounted in a place that has line of sight) or will I need to purchase an array of IR emmiters, to control different devices. If I do need some sort of Array what would be a good product.

Thanks

Thanks for all the suggestions I will try them as soon as I get a chance, I really must appologize for not updating anyone I was awaiting a notifaction e-mail which never came and kinda forgot to check up on my post.

My Machine is pretty much comprised of an Asus A5WD2-E Premium mostly all components are on the motherboard for a video card I'm running a Sapphire ATI Raedion X1600 as my video card.

Will update on my findings.

Users / Re: Why is my VGA signal better than hdmi?
July 17, 2008, 10:24:02 PM
This may be a rediculous question but by any chance is the cable over 50-60 feet.

When an HDMI cable length gets too long the signal loses strength. This results in picture distortion, sparklies (where single pixels drop out of the picture), or no picture display at all, only sound capabilities. If any of these problems occur than the cable length is too long, and the signal needs to be adjusted by additional devices.

First I'll start out by saying that I'm new to Linux, but not to computers in general. I've been an IT manager for 8 years, Generally I can figure things out on my own. When I see the videos and demonstrations for LMCE I can't help but get really exited about all the thing that can be done with the software.

I'm having a bit of trouble with loading up the software. Everything seems to work ok except for one little issue. After installing When I boot up the machine which is a Hybrid Core/MD the Launch Manger loads and I see all of the services starting, they all start successfully. I then get to the progress window and eventually get into the entertainment interface. UI2 I believe. After about 60 seconds it then reverts the dcerouter login prompt. When I press Ctrl + alt + F7 as I've read on the forums it simply takes me to a blank black screen with a flashing cursor (_) in the upper left hand corner almost like it's waiting for a command. once I get there I must reboot and the process repeats.

So I don't think it's a driver issue because all of my devices work based on the AV Wizard. Even my Optical sound DTS audio. I have re-done the AV Wizard about 3 times. So I'm not sure what steps to take from here.
Can anybody help?
