Hi Harold,

One other point to note ... you don't need to spend large $$$$ to get a test system up and running... there are plenty of solutions and options available to you..... i suggest you have a look around at some of the user setups and the hardware they use...... ie there are some that use the asus m2n boards...... they are old now in terms of technology.... but they still can be purchased for next to nothing.......and they work well and are fairly reliable... if you have some old hdds lying around.... use them....... and as mentioned previously..... get a feel for it and enjoy it...baby steps....

so many options.....

however...given that youare just starting out..... can i strongly suggest that you look at the wiki ad user setups as well as hardware options that work well with lmce.....

in terms of the features that you intend to use...please look at the user guide and wiki as i am sure that you will find many options for the areas that u are interested in....

There a number of people including myself that havre or are currently utilising the n810.... again i suggest yo look through the forum and the wiki..... there are options for you..

Best of luck... a word of advice......look and listen to what already works and if u have access to the hardware....sweet.... however if u have knowledge and can contriubte to things that do not have support or solutions..... please free to add so that the comunity can benfit from ur experiences....

congrats to all of those who have spent sleepless nights....

I have only just had the chance to see whats happening after many months away working in reote places where 14.4k dialup is a luxury.....
i am really keen to enjoy the latest release...

I have been following this experience for many years and If i am around long enough before i dissappear into the wilderness again i will stop by the wiki redevlopment and see where i can lend a hand....

in terms of new mobo's.... any sugestions.... i am keen to move forward..due to the fact that my original hardware died..

i need a mobo that au users are using that is currently available ....... and it needs to have at least 3 pci slots....

Purps- i totally missed that fact... will need to revisit the mobo thing..... as i will need to run 2 x nova t's as well.... and obviously the network card..... the other thing that i was considering was a dvb-s card...

In terms of MD's i have been reading the wiki/forum and the zotac or asus options appear to be the way to go. Given that i will need roughly 8 units.... should i still look to use a multicore cpu as well as a reasonable amount of ram.

Klovell - i understand where you are coming from and i believe everyone who first dives into lmce has similar questions.... your thought in relation to the poll might be an interesting exercise..... and my gut feeling is that there will be quite number of systems which will be a few years old and will be using between 1 -2gb ram and more than likely a cpu of around 1.6 - 2.0 Ghz...

Some other things to consider in the poll would be whether users ustilise an internal or external nas...

overall i know from my limited experience that there are many many configurations, and depending on where you are situated in the world... the type of components that are available vary greatly...

Hi All,

Have been away for a while...been spending time with the new additions to the family and have had no time to tinker.... let alone sleep!!!

my existing core has died terminally.... so i a am considering a new core.....

I am looking at a i5 2600k processor, G-B P67A-UD3B3 mainboard, ram etc....

I reviewed hardware and there is nothing comparible... at the time of writing this...

I am and will be happy to add this to the wiki, but would like thoughts from others before i outlay the $$

In terms of specs of the GB mb....it appears to have the features that would be suitable for a core.

I already have a dual dvb-t card(haupage nova t-500) that will work in both vdr(preffered) as well as mythtv...

So my question is would this be suitable as a core?

OR is there other options that anyone would suggest?........keep in mind that i am in australia.... so if there are au lmce users or anyone who could add comments please do... i will be documenting this as i go along and will be happy to add comments from au users..

Many thanks.... i will just reinstall the dvd and just run the linuxmce icon. By the sounds of it a number of bugs have been resolved.

i have just finished the install and updates, but have not run the linuxmce icon yet. Did you change the nvidia script before or after you ran the linuxmce icon?

intersting - i am just in the throws of throwing in another GB mainboard and seeing if it will run with an existing install. It is the same model just slightly different in terms of pci slots. Hopefully that will work otherwsie i will be looking for an asus board.

Hi All,

To be on the safe side i replaced the cmos battery, ram and video card and no luck.

I replaced the mainboard with something i had lying around and am now trying to resurrect everything.... not liking my chances.. but you never know...

Hi All,

I was only commenting on the forum earlier regarding upgrading to 8.10 and the fact that i can't get 8.10 running.. i swapped my working 7.10 HDD back into my core and booted it up.... all good - i went away and came back about an hour later and the core was off. I tried to reboot - no good... completely dead. Swapped the PSU and still no luck...... my dilema is as follows

Can i put a new motherboard into the machine and do a 'repair' on the existing install??? If so how do i go about it ?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

i am glad this is not just me who is running into this issue.

In my case i had a completly working 7.10 core with this setup and all works well. I put a new HDD in and decided to try 8.10 and installed it from dvd and now i can't even get a internet connection at all. I have tried dhcp, manuallly configured addresses and still no internet connections.  I am at a loss to explain why it won't work as the hardware works perfectly under 7.10..

Any thoughts ?
