ok an update,

I have tried install the alternate CD still without any luck, this time in stead of getting the "cannot allocate resource" message I get the install screed, select "install", the programme starts and I think I get into the main window, I only think as I cannot make out what is on the screen, instead of getting a desktop window I get a load of lines across the screed, I can see the select bar moving up and down by the change in colour but have know idea what any of it says.

I should also mention that I am using a s-video out when install as it is linked direct to a TV not a monitor, but I do not believe this should make a difference as I get the Bios window with out trouble.

Have also tried acpi=off etc with the same results.

Any ideas! Anyone! ???

Can anybody please help!!!

I am very new to Linux and i am trying to install the LinuxMCE. I have downloaded the 64 and 32 bit edition in install them on a HTPC I have. I am currently running Vista on the machine but wanted to give Linux a go so see what it is like.
the spec of the machine is as follows.

Mobo Asus A8V Deluxe
GPU  Ati Radeon 9800 pro
CPU 3200+ (64bit)
TV Card WinTV 350
HDD 1st 80gb SATA
      2nd 250 SATA
      3rd 20GB IDE

i have the vista installed on the 1st drive and am using the second as storage. i am trying to install Linux on the third so it doesn't interfere with the other drive which i have disabled and removed when trying to install Linux with out any lick.

The problem I am having is I after the Live DVD starts I select install KDE 710 64 bit edition, the install starts fine, then after about 2 mins I get the message

Cannot allocate resource 0 of device 0000:00:00.0

And that's where everything stops, I have tried waiting to see if it will continue but no such luck.

I have search extensively for a solution to this problem but so far I have been unsuccessful. from what I have read I believe it is linked to by 9800 pro, people seem to have found a way around by using different drivers, but like I said I am new and am unsure how to do this.

Am currently downloading Kubuntu alternate CD to give this a go but any help and advice will be very much appreciated
