Does this mean that the Installing 0810 - LinuxMCE wiki http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Installing_0810 is no longer valid since it pulls from avenard or does this just apply to the DVD images?

It isn't about internal network and external network, it is about the Core controlling the topology. Two NIC's make the system more easily configured for PNP. LinuxMCE has several features that require certain network topologies, or at least knowledge of the network layout to work consistently, and when in the supported two NIC layout the core creates these topologies.

The diagram you reference seems to indicate two NIC's one to the left of the core (external), and one to the right(MCE network). You will need to connect the broadband router to the core on the switch part of the router, not the external interface port (once you disable the DHCP). You can also pickup a switch for about the same price as a NIC, sell your router on E-bay and probably pay for both.

Things like auto-detecting network devices when plugged into the network, Asterik, IP Cameras, Network booting MD's, and other things that I can't think of each have their own dependencies on the network configuration, for this to work and be PNP you need two NIC's unless you want to dive into how each of these packages interact with the DCE Router, the network, and Kubuntu. If you do please post your findings, several of us would like to know what you find.

this Forum/Community 'sells' nothing

I would have to say that this forum, and it's illuminati, frequently sells the pros/cons of LinuxMCE. Selling does not require the exchange of money, sometimes "selling" just means getting someone to like an idea. The orginal poster is obviously implying that we sell this great idea, and all the work that has been put into it so that we can broaden the user base and thus hopefully the development base.

The forums have gotten better since moderation, but the fact that this is being said means it probably isn't completly true. For instance, when someone makes a suggestion that they think would help lighten the load they should have that question addressed, not some missinterprettation of a corner of their post rode. Point posts like this in the right direction, why won't the Mythbuntu help? Is it a KDE thing?

Your issues sound like they could be created by a weak input signal. Have you verified that the line you are using works correctly in other equipment, perhaps by hooking it directly to a tv?

Then beyond that I have seen where the signal is strong enough for a tv, but not for a PVR or tuner card, for some reason they seem to need a stronger cleaner signal. Try hooking up to another line that is closer to your signal source.

I know these seem like simple answers, but I've seen them solve similiar issues several times in the past.

What is the minimum memory recomendations for the Media Director?

The only thing I can find for for the Newbie Packs is 1-2 GB, and that just seems ridiculous for a thin client.

Wow, I found more information, you can install up to 128MB in the Xbox, but that still won't be enough. According to the XBox-Linux.org forums

Normally, there are 256 MB RAM or 512 MB RAM inside the hardware of PC. But, there are only 64 MB RAM available inside the hardware of Xbox. Some software applications need a size of 128 MB RAM or 256 MB RAM to start. For example the Web browser "Mozilla Firefox" needs a minimum size of 128 MB RAM to run. If you want to see Video you need a minimum size of 256 MB RAM.

Since I think we can all agree video is fairly important here I would say the Xbox is out as a MD, but still a good canidate as a MythTV frontend to access my LinuxMCE media, until I can allocate funds to building true MD.

Is it possible to use the MythTV frontend to access The Core for PVR and media, or have there been fundamental changes made that would prevent this when wrapping MythTV into LinuxMCE?

Has anyone setup an orginal X-box as a Media Director? If so what issues did you encounter? If not does anyone have any idea why it would be a bad idea?
