Users / Some Music Won't Play
« on: December 31, 2009, 04:58:03 pm »
I have an 8.10 hybrid.  I've moved my audio files from another linux machine to the hybrid via SMB and put them in the public audio directory, I then did a synch via the web admin (have actually tried this a few times).  When I select to play them some will play and some won't.  Below is what I have tried to remidy the problem but unsucessfull.
Tried playing by atrist, album and individual song: some will play and some will not.
There is a mix of ogg and mp3: verified that some of each type will play and some of each will not play.
Checked naming convention: some have underscore with no spaces, some have spaces, some have punctuation with spaces and punctuation with underscore and no spaces but nothing is consistent when comparing what will play and what won't.
Checked permissions: scsever(me):public is set on all and scsever:public have rwx
Tried playing via Amarok in the KDE desktop on hybrid: get an error that there is no audio device, however in Linuxmce some music will play and all videos have no audio problems.
Moved entire content of audio directory to another linux machine and all music plays via Amarok.

I have no idea what else I can do.
Any ideas what could be the problem?

Thanks,

Users / Re: Full HDD on 7.10, Add HDD and move files?

I partitioned and formatted the drive as soon as LinuxMCE booted up, it was then recognized as a new storage device and I continued with the setup.  I didn't wait to see if it would be recognized prior to partitioning and formatting since I was sure I would have to do that anyway.  Since this was a used drive it had existing partitions that I wiped out, I think it was Linux and swap.

This worked pretty sweet...
Since I already had a hard disk and wasn't ready to invest in a NAS device I went ahead and installed the IDE drive in the hybrid.  When I upgrade my hybrid in the next year or so I'll look into adding a NAS device.
I set the new drive up as a LinuxMCE managed file system and then moved my audio contents from HDA to HDB
I was very pleased with how smooth it all went!

Thanks,

Users / Full HDD on 7.10, Add HDD and move files?
« on: August 08, 2009, 06:27:29 pm »
I'm running 7.10.
My IDE disk is now at 99% full and I am planning to add a second IDE disk.
This will be a blank disk and I plan to format it with one partition.  I plan to use the entire disk for public media files.
From what I have read when LinuxMCE detects this and I make my selections I should choose to use it as part of the LinuxMCE file system.
After this is done do I need to move other media to it from my first disk since that's now 99% full?  I'm concerned that I may run into other issues if I don't free up some storage space on HDA.
What are the primary differences between using the LinuxMCE file system vs making it all public?  Which is the best choice for my situation?
Any comments or tips to offer?

Thanks,

Users / Insteon Device Disappears From List
« on: February 10, 2009, 12:34:06 am »
I have one PC in my setup and it's configured as a hybrid, I have two Insteon ApplianceLinc 2456S3 and have manually set them up as shown in the image below.  There may be problems with my setup, and please tell me if there is, but I have done the best that I could figure out via the wiki.  They both work fine with these settings but if I have to power down or reboot, the second one (#40) goes away and I have to manually enter it again.  After I enter all the information I do an update and then a reload of the router and it works fine until I power cycle again.  Any ideas what could be causing this?

Also I have an Insteon motion sensor, 2420M, that I would like to use to trigger one of the ApplianceLincs on for a set amount of time.  Is there support for this type of setup?

I have attached my serial device log and image of Lighting Device Setup.

Thanks,

Users / Re: How to exit MythTV and more

Thanks to both of you for your responses.
I'm currently using a keyboard for all my controls.
F7 does provide some control options that I hadn't seen before, so will be using it now.
I don't want anyone to take my opinion as a knock against the people that put all that hard work
into this product on their own time, but as an end user I see the MythTV feature a bit awkward with
the startup time (scaling images and such) just to view TV.  But on the other hand I understand the
reasons for using it, and couldn't do better myself...  I think as the weather and news features come
I'll care less about TV through the PC since I can just change my input device for regular TV viewing anyway.

Thanks again,

Users / How to exit MythTV and more
« on: May 03, 2008, 06:42:26 pm »
Greetings,
I'm new to LinuxMCE, but have been using MythTV for about four years now and experimented with Pluto quite a bit in the past.
MythTV has gotten to a point where I'm really pleased with the install and functionality, but I would like a little more out of it, hence try Pluto and now LinuxMCE.  Since I don't have any home automation equipment at this time (gradually working into that), I find that I am using MythTV most of the time.
I better get down to my subject question before you decide to leave this post, then I have a couple other questions.  From what I can see the only way to get from MythTV and back to the LinuxMCE GUI is to do a shutdown of the frontend; esc, esc... Isn't there a way to switch from one to the other?  I really don't see the point in shutting down are restarting the MythTV frontend every time I want to use it.
Also I wonder why more of the MythTV plug-ins haven't been installed in LinuxMCE, such as MythWeather or MythNews, since LinuxMCE doesn't offer these, other than using a browser (from what I can find)?  I've added the plug-ins that I wanted, will I run into problems by doing so?
So to summarize:
How to keep Mythfrontend running while switching back to LinuxMCE GUI?
Is there a reason for LinuxMCE not using more of MythTV in the install?
Will I have problems by adding MythTV plug-ins?

Thanks,
Steve
