I know it's not someone else going into the system. My wife doesn't even know how to turn it on, and my firewall is currently blocking every port...

I do remember now that you mention it, that the AV wizard never showed (the one where you select your video options, sound options) but the setup wizard did show and I went fully through that one (the one with the videos). I'm not sure how not having the AV wizard go through it's rounds would remove most of the installed systems, MythTV and the Web Admin were the two that I particularly noticed.

I am starting to work on a backup system on that box, using duplicity and S3, but I had not even finished writing the script, let alone launching it.

I'll try again in the next few days and see if it does the same thing.

I have tried installing 8.10 a few times, and the last few attempts have meet with various problems. Most of them have been solved through tinkering. My latest problem (happened on the last 3 installs) is a self deleting install. After I have completed the install per the wiki directions of 8.10, everything seams to be working. My system was controlling the TV and receiver properly, DVDs would play, etc. However when I came back in the morning to continue tinkering (setting up insteon and the such), the system had deleted itself. MythTV was uninstalled, all of the pluto database tables were missing, the web admin was deleted, etc.

Any ideas?

I guess I still have a lot to learn about the architecture of LinuxMCE. Is there a way to sniff an event log as to what commands are being sent for each button I press? There was a post earlier that I did not fully understand (one by you) to add the file to the playlist then jump to that file. You had a concern that it would not do it fast enough, but that shouldn't be a problem as I have to wait for the receiver and projector to turn on (30 sec for the projector) so there is no sound or video for a while anyway. I would also only do the event on projector turn-on. I can't however find any events to add a file to a play list, nor to jump to a position in the playlist. I know how to do it in the orbiter, so being able to sniff events would be great!

Well, after finishing some honey-dos, I'm back to working on the system. I have not be able to get the spawn application to work. I tried the following:
Arguments=-fs /home/public/data/videos/Fox_Theaters.mpg
Filename=mplayer
name=mplayer

and

Arguments=
Filename=mplayer -fs /home/public/data/videos/Fox_Theaters.mpg
name=mplayer


I see nothing happening on the machine though.

What am I doing wrong? Is there an example for spawn application I can use as a template?

Well, that takes out the MH Play idea. I think the playlist idea would be unreliable...

My next idea would be to use the spawn application setting. I could pause the current media playback, then spawn another instance of xine (or another player). then after program exit or after a preset timeout resume playback on the orbiter.

My problem now is figuring out what the variables mean in the spawn application. they are:

Arguments (string)
Detach (bool)
Exclusive (bool)
Filename (string)
Name (string)
Retransmit (bool)
SendOnFailure (string)
SendOnSuccess (string)
Show Logo (bool)

I took a look at the internet radio senario, but  have encountered two problems. The first is the file will not play. I do the MH_Play setting, which asks for a filename as a string. I used the folder browse button, which after selecting my file gave me a number like 2088. When I test the senario it says it can't find the file. I tried giving it the complete path to the file, /home/public... but that didn't work either.

The second problem is when it does try to play, it seams to stop the othe video completely. What I want it to do is play the video when the projector comes on, then resume whatever it was going to do (play DVD etc).

Playlists would be problematic, as I would have to create one for each and every movie I own. And when I dropped in a new DVD, it wouldn't play the opener.

I was thinking an event would be the way to go, but I don't see anything in the event list for actions that would pause playback, nor start something else. Maybe there is a command to run a shell command (start another player manually?)

Is there a way to pause playback of a video, play a different video (like a movie theater opener), then re-start the original video?

I have a theater PC hooked up to a projector. When I start playback for the first time, I want it to turn on the projector (working now), play an opener, and then play the video I selected.

You can get the 8.04 drivers from the ati (AMD) site. Go to http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.HTML, click on linux (x86 or x86_64 for 64 bit system), then choose your card. Click on previous drivers from below and you're good to go!

Can someone confirm this? If this is true, I think I'll put a bounty out for fixing this bug so everyone can use their mce remotes as transmitters. It seams odd to me that in one spot of the software it works, but another it doesn't. Probably some legacy code that needs to be centralized or something.

It shows up as LIRC Embedded Transmit. It is though a windows mce v2 receiver. It seams a little odd though that I could use the device in the pronto format test screen, but not use it with commands that use those same pronto format codes.

As a continuation of post http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=6865.0, but now in a different direction, I am unable to control my receiver through LinuxMCE. I created an AV Equipment through the devices wizard for my receiver (had to create a new template). The weird thing is I can go into A/V Properties for the device and see all of my pronto codes for the device. I am able to test each of the commands from there and it does the appropriate things to my receiver. I setup in the template all of the commands to work with the A/V Properties (on, off, vol+ vol-, etc). Each command's number matches back to the A/V Properties, so I think that is working. However when I go into the advanced properties of the device, click the send command button, and send it a command, I get no response from the device. I have no logs for any device other than the basic components (no log for even the MD!), so I have no help there.

Can anyone help with this? I'd love to be able to use LinuxMCE as it was intended.

As much as I hate sugesting old drivers, if you use the latest version of the ATI drivers, MythTV does not work very well. It has a tendency to get the "blocks of death"  (see http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/ATI_Proprietary_Driver#.22Checkerboard_of_Death.22). I would suggest downgrading to 8.04 and see if that fixes your issues

Nobody knows anything about pipes?

Am I doing something wrong? I was under the impression that when I have the pipes setup, it would automatically send the commands to the device I have hooked up to the pipe to power on and turn to the appropriate input. Is this the case or am I wasting my time barking up the pipe command tree?

I'm trying to get my MD to turn on my receiver and turn it to the appropriate input when media starts playing. I guess I could set this up via an event. Is that the proper way to do this?

Not to argue, but at least from a command line it is very trivial to send commands to a device. All you have to do is type irsend send_once [remote name from the config file, in this case Onkyo_RC-707M_Reg] [Command like POWER or DVD]

Seams like this would be an easy add, plus it would have the benefit of hundreds of lirc formatted remotes that could be brought in from the lirc library.

Luckily I found some pronto format code for this device.
