Use case - LMCE users who have 2 or more MDs in the room, but only one has 7.1 surround.  It would be excellent if LMCE could redirect all MD audio from one machine to another to utilize the best sound system in the room.

Hi,

I'm using an IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad T60, using UI1, as one of my many MDs.  When I try to use the built-in trackpad, the LMCE orbiter registers as though "4" and "1" on the keyboard are pressed in a seemingly random order, and eventually jumps the orbiter to the Phone Book (and enters something like "1441444414444144" as I move the mouse).  In KDE desktop, everything functions correctly.  I've played around with the orbiters "Hard Keys Mapping" setting in the Web UI, without success.  This forces me to use only the keyboard to navigate the UI.

Can anyone give me some direction on how to resolve this problem?  At first I thought maybe Xorg.conf needs modified, but everything works fine in KDE, leading me to believe its an issue with the Orbiter software running on this particular model laptop.

UI2 and eventually 3 should scroll up/down with 1 arrow, flipping pages every 10-15 seconds.

Currently UI2 doesn't scroll repeatedly when 1 arrow up or down is displayed in lists...  In my opinion this is a a major usability improvement -  LinuxMCE users could display enormous lists of media in a slower to render, fully automated yet comprehensible manner.  Right now, its hard to follow everything on-screen with lots of varying media in a 2 arrow flipping mode.

If 1 arrow up/down is not meant to flip by design, then I would suggest 2 arrows should scroll through lists slower by default.

Running dmesg on my core shows this countless times:

Seems the volume is being mounted/unmounted repeatedly.  I followed these instructions here for adding a second internal HD to the core:

I then allowed it to be auto-discovered by LMCE, and used an orbiter to add the drive to the system.  Doesn't it seem this is wear 'n tearing the drive, with constant mounts/remounts?  Ideally I think the drive should spin down and not be accessed until its needed, as its only used for media.  After leaving the system up overnight, dmesg returns only the above log entries again and again.

I'd rather see Drupal integrated with LinuxMCE.  It has a larger following and a massive selection of 3rd party modules, giving more extensibility for future uses.

I'd like to request a new feature - in the web UI's Basic Info > Installation page, have an option to select the desired power consumption of the entire LinuxMCE system (ie Green/Balanced/Performance).  This option might also be available in the orbiter, or configurable programmatically (dcerouter/C++), or even just based on the current house mode.  If set for Green, LinuxMCE switches all Orbiters to a dark theme, aggressively powers down MDs, blanks screens, dismounts storage, reduces/increases climate temp based on outside temp, turns off A/V gear, etc.  Balanced is the standard setting, but should be tuned beyond the current 8.10b2, which seems to run the flickr screensaver constantly.  Performance would automatically start devices in the areas around your location/level based on your location in the floorplan (ie for large installs), quickly engage perimeter lighting, use all unused displays for the flickr screensaver, etc.

This introduces new useful scenarios in which you want your homes power mode to switch to green when your away for an extended period of time, time of day, etc, or when you want your home in performance mode for party/demonstration situations.  I think this is a very useful and marketable feature that could potentially reduce the carbon footprint of large installs and potentially LinuxMCE users overall, while expanding the already obvious existing cool factor.  More brainstorming is certainly needed...  Chime in if you can

Just an idea - how about having some text to speech using festival?  Would be cool to have the alarm clock MD read something like:

'Good morning.  Its 8 AM.  Outside conditions are currently sunny, 75 degrees with 50 percent humidity.  (blinds open)  You have 2 new voice mails.  Starting music playback.'

Weather could be pulled from an online source, or from Z-Wave climate sensors.  I haven't a clue how difficult this would be to script, however...

I had mixed success fixing this problem on 8.10b2 (dvd install) orbiters by:

-creating new rooms
-moving the problematic orbiter to the new room
-placing it on the floorplan
-restarting the core

This recreated the media scenarios, but it's certainly not a good nor reliable solution.

For some reason all of my orbiter related files are 0k, I've even double checked this by ssh'ing to my core.  Seen a few other instances of this issue since 2007, but no real solutions.

Where did you get the installer?

All of the Orbiter installers are empty on my fresh instance of LMCE 8.10b2 (/usr/pluto/bin/Orbiter_* and /usr/pluto/installers/*), installed from DVD.  Could you kindly direct me to the Xscale version?

I've found the source files in SVN:

But don't have a dev environment and need a CAB or EXE to install on my WM2003 IPAQ.

I have a Panasonic BL-C131a IP camera, which is now working well with LinuxMCE and the motion wrapper.  This camera, and many others, has a feature to 'Send Notification When Triggered', which can be sent via email or HTTP (some Axis cameras have TCP notifications).  This particular camera has on-board motion and thermal sensing capabilities, and allows you to send different notifications for different 'triggers'.

I am very interested in interfacing this camera with LinuxMCE using HTTP notifications, which would reduce the load and power consumption on the core (not to mention the network!).  Basically the IPCam could hit a particular URL on the core when it detects motion or thermal events, passing the type of event to LMCE in a parameter, which instructs the core to record from the camera for a designated amount of time.  This should also eliminate false positives in the security system when someone is PTZing the camera directly.  It also eliminates the complexities of using the motion wrapper, and could allow lower spec cores to monitor many intelligent IP cameras.

While I am able program, I'm by no means a software engineer   As I'm also new to LinuxMCE, naturally I have a few questions before I attempt this feat:

-Are there already facilities in LMCE to receive HTTP notifications, and turn them into MessageSend commands to the DCERouter?
-If not, what is the cleanest way to approach implementing this (without hacking something together)?
-Would anyone else be interested in using this feature?
-Is anyone willing to help out with development?

Thank you for posting your solution.  I spent many hours trying to find a fix - the use of active sensors for security in LMCE 710b4 still seems broken.  The various states do not work as expected using both the DVD and CD installation methods, when trying to use motion with my panasonic ip camera.  After I manually added a new motion detection sensor following your instructions, I managed to get things working as needed.
