My recollection with earlier versions was that the "Software" section of the installer presented a screen populated with libdvdcss and W32, W64 options.   These sections are now blank.  Is this intentional or has my installation failed?

Likewise, the remote (control) "learning" screen is blank, my recollection was that it was populated with "up", "down", etc and that you could send the codes and it would save the file without having to go into the web admin.  This section also presents a blank two sections screen.

If it's not behaving as intended please let me know and I will submit a ticket with the hardware details.   My location is Australia.

Regards,

Bob

Thanks folks - my apologies - the problem was my impatience.

If I had waited for around 45 seconds the splash screen would have appeared.

I have tried this on my original M2NPV and a Z68 i5 machine and both performed similarly.

I am currently installing onto the M2NPV and all appears to be progressing as I can recall.

The ease of installation and informative splash screens is far superior to my last installs.

Well done to all of those who contributed / made it possible.

I haven't used the system for some years (having ehthusiastically bought  three M2NPV motherboards to set up my initial 7.04 system) through fear of contributing to the greenhouse by running the server (core) 365/24/7.

However, I still drop by from time to time to see how the enthusiasts are progressing.

"The time has come" caught my attention as the feedback indicates you have been making significant progress.

I decided to try again but came unstuck at step number one.

I have downloaded LMCE-1004-20121025233126610.iso and checked its md5 sum - all OK.

I've made four burns using Nero 11 from the slowest to fastest speed.

Every one refuses to boot giving the first Linux loading line and ending in boot:

If I input anything it states "unable to find kernel" or similar.

As I can't find any similar experiences in the forum I presume I've missed something very basic in the image burning process although I've burned and used the 8.10 install successfully during the same session.

I was hoping the 10.04 would avoid me having to do the r8111 workaround. ???

Can anyone help?

I recently did the DVD install (twice) with my POV_ION with DIMM following the Wiki.

I wasn't optimistic as the md5sum differed from that on the torrent site (Download - 1ef692251acb05c5aca3798f52f9268d4eed7639

Torrent Site f009b23d31c52950e0e2f8faab14897b  LinuxMCE-8.10-beta2.iso    14Apr10)

On the last occasion I followed the wiki instructions precisely, ignoring the advice to update the avenard directory in the sources list and waited patiently for each stage to complete.   This took several hours.

Ultimately, the installation completed with the latest nVidia drivers (195) automatically installed along with the correct drivers for the Realtek 8111 / 8168 onboard NIC.

The necessary codecs for DVD decryption etc (libdvdcss2, w32codecs) were not installed due to the inability to access medibuntu as described by others.   I ultimately managed to install libdvdcss but couldn't explain how.   If someone has an up to date alternative location (to medibuntu) it would be useful to add to the Wiki.

I am yet to try all basic functions but the install appears complete.

If there is consensus I am prepared to update the Wiki on the basis of this experience.

I have tried again with the DVD install on the POV-ION Atom board (like you I added the ISO to a bootable USB drive) and had partial success.

The installation took around three hours (my guess, I didn't time it) and I needed to follow the DVD installation precisely (an earlier attempt failed).

The partial nature of the success is the failure to provide the usual software options in the "Software" screen, it being black and blank rather than showing libdvdcss, wcodecs, and cisco drivers.

All the latest nVidia drivers were automatically loaded, as were the drivers for the Realtek NIC.   It was difficult, but I resisted the temptation to respond to messages emanating from the Kubuntu instal (update Video driver, restart now) and waited for each terminal line to complete.

Hope you're having some success.

I have tried installing onto a POV-ION Atom board with a similar result that I attribute to the issue with the second (in this case the on-board) NIC being the REALTEK 8111 / 8168 issue that is well documented in the WIKI / Forum with regard to a work around for media directors but not cores.   I've given up as my Linux skills aren't sufficient to install the work around.   Yours might be better.   Like your experience, the hardware configuration works well with Ubuntu 9.10.   The more modern kernel includes recognition for the 8111 / 8168.

Users / Re: USB-UIRT question
« on: February 04, 2010, 01:08:22 pm »
I have used the dual head emitter successfully to control TV, AV Receiver and TV set top box from the one USBUIRT (directing the USBUIRT at the amplifier to get three outputs as I have a FIIRE remote and don't need the receiver function other than to learn the codes from my appliance remotes).   I can't recall the brand (purchased in Australia, Radio Parts Group, of US origin) but it looks very similar to the photos in your link.   At $6.95 it's a low risk option to try (cost me AUD 28).   Thanks for the lead, it's good to know a three head version is available.

Bob

Leo, I'm not using 8.10 so can't say whether there is an USB-UIRT issue with it or not.   With 7.10 I had to fiddle a little with my TV and Set Top Box in the set up wizard.   Are you aware that there is a facility in the wizard (presumably carried over into 8.10) where you can adjust the pulse duration?   There is also an item in the Wiki that shows how to send two pulses, I found this helpful also.   Regards, Bob

16 May 09 (Australia) I googled Kubuntu homepage and for 0810 only 0804 and 0904 are shown.

I downloaded 0904 and followed the 14 May 2009 "stories, stories" instructions on the LMCE home page.

I'm using the ASUS M2NPV VM AMD 3600 with 2GB ram as posted some time ago as a usable configuration.

The download appears to fail to locate the pluto directory as shown in the attached.   As no one has reported this issue I presume the problem arises from use of 0904.   Can someone confirm please and point me to where a copy of Kubuntu 0810 may be found.

Help with how to post would be appreciated if this is the wrong place or manner.

Bob

This thread appears to answer a query I wanted to make.

Colin has reported (as I recall) elsewhere that re-installs are best made by keeping your media data on an NAS or the like.   I have been using the (similar approach) Software Raid of LMCE and this has survived many rebuilds except I always have to re-install my cover art for audio recorded in .ogg format yet video cover art is always recovered.

The added "bulk update" features in 0710 make this a relatively easy task but I would rather avoid it if I could.   I keep the cover art in a folder on the Software Raid.

As you all refer to the embedded id3 tag of mp3 files does this mean it is not possible to achieve this "automatic cover art audio update" outcome with the ogg format and mp3 is the recommended approach?

Installation issues / Re: Leadtek PVR2000

I also have this card.   I have not been able to get the audio to work from the tuner in LinuxMCE / Myth add in.   It does work with the onboard cable between the tuner card and the motherboard but is way out of sync due to myth's inbuilt delay.   Worse, once it starts (from Myth) the sound can't be turned off without a reboot.   I can't get anything out of the onboard mpeg encoder.   The good news is that I wanted to use it to capture from my cable box.   It does this provided the sound is added through the motherboard line in.   The on card sound inputs don't work.   I'm still trying and reading and will post again if I have success.

I have purchased an Intel Atom Box with Svideo connection.   It appears that SVideo can not support 720p - can someone confirm this for me?

Users / Re: tv card in core server?

I presume because the core must run all the time and as you may wish to program a recording that is the logical place to put your card.   Media directors don't have to run continuously but can share what they have so there is no reason (apart from the preceding) why you couldn't place your card in one of them away from your closet.

I might have missed your point, but in the hope that this might help, please ignore if I am stating what you already know.   If you want to get cover art from the web go to Admin/Files&Media/Media Files Sync.   On the LHS in the directory structure navigate to the location of your file.   Click on the location and your file should appear on the RHS under "Files on disk".   Click the name of the file.   Click the "Check Amazon" button.   Click "Please select" and choose "Title" from the drop down box.   Click "Get Amazon Attributes & Cover Art" watch in the lower status bar for "Waiting for dcerouter" to finish .   The RHS should now be populated with metadata and cover art of items matching your search criteria.   If you find something suitable click its radio button and scroll down to the bottom of the page where the "Save" button can be selected.   If nothing suitable has been found use the "Back to file" button and try another keyword search.

If you want to add you own cover art from a photo or scanned item the jpg image may have to be small.   Mine are generally less than 350x500pxls.   Use Linux command lines to place the picture into a directory then navigate back to your avi file as described earlier but instead of using the Amazon buttons scroll down the page to the Add Picture area and use the browse button to locate where you have placed your picture.   Click the "Add Picture" button.   Save, resynchronise, quick reload router and you should see your cover art.   I have had to power down and restart on occasions to see the newly added cover art.
