I think I'll also put in an empty PVC conduit from the basement to the attic for future expansion.

This is a great idea.  I just built a house and I remembered to do this.  I got to use it when they came to install the wireless (I am out in the country but up on a hill so I can WiMax to the watertower 5 miles away, 1.0 meg service is better than dial-up and a lot cheaper than satellite) and even though the rep on the phone assured me that I just need coax (RG6) for their installation, the installer gets here and tells me that guy is an idiot and they use cat5e.  So instead of having to fish cat5e (I actually used cat6 everywhere) through two stories to get from the attic to the basement, I just dropped it down one of the three 1.5 inch PVC conduits i ran along side the clothes chute.  One of the best 'extras' that I added while I was building this place.

in NA, there are patches to get MythTV working with DVB-S.  It requires recompiling Mythtv from scratch...
http://dvbn.happysat.org is going to be your best friend.

Since you can do what you say above, would it be beneficial to just have a dedicated Myth box on the network, whose only job is to decode and record DVB-S?  Send all the recordings to the network share and configure the core to look at the myth box when a MD requests live TV.  That way when trouble shooting the core you wouldn't have to worry about a hack Myth.

Pardon me if this has already been asked, and I may remember reading that someone had their system set up like this, but searching MythTV comes up with just a couple of posts...

If I had my house built and system installed, I would buy that in a second.  Can you hold it for 6 months?   Somehow I don't think you'll find trouble getting rid of that.

I would disagree about the attacked part, I've only see people get attacked if they post for the first time saying, "This Linux MCE is the suxxor cuz I get get it installed and I'm l33t" or "I'm a fricking idiot cuz I didn't read the instructions and formatted my drive and it's all you people in the forum's fault"

People round here have been nice from the short time I've been here.

One could build a DIY system with http://www.htd.com/amplifiers/12-Channel-Amplifier or some of the other htd offerings if they fit the bill.

Thank you Jason, you just made my night.  This is exactly what I need, 2 to be exact.  I have seen similar items, I'm looking at you Channel Vision, but this one is much more robust with the doorbell and page features, plus more inputs.  My google-fu must be weak lately...

I always keep Linux destroyers in my fleet, even after I get Linux battleships.  Their attack and bombard stats aren't as high as the Linux battleships, but they are useful for spotting the enemy Windows submarines.

The best is when you first get Linux destroyers and you can go around taunting all the Windows ironclads and fishing boats, not to mention whooping up on the Windows caravels.

Thanks.  There is something about the do-it-yourselfer in me that helped me make the decision to GC it myself, and perhaps that same attitude is what draws me to linux...

Seriously, look into what you are looking for before you just make uninformed decisions. it goes a long way towards being satisfied with your choice.

I think this is just the way we are breeding people in the world today.  People want instant gratification and don't want to work hard (or at all) to achieve it.  I've been reading about Pluto and now Linux MCE for the two years I've been planning my house and only today did I even get around to installing it for the first time ever.  And I had some problems, but I got through them and I am stronger for it.  Thank you and good night.
