Go to the web admin, go to Interfaces, click Add Device.  Select IrTrans Embedded Transmitter.  Any devices you want to control with it should have that newly created device as their Controlled By device.

Dependant on kernel support, but nice and promising   Of course, all 6 of my SATA ports are used already...but its nice to know anyways.

also, the directory that my core is set to record to (/home/public/data/videos/Main Storage Volume [122]/tv_shows_1) contains an nfslockfile.lock whereas the one my MD is set to record to (/home/public/data/videos/Main Storage Volume [122]/tv_shows_68) does not.

Should my mythtv users has the same UID on core and MD's?  they don't currently.   also, my MD doesn't have mythtv user as part of the mythtv group, or as part of the public group.  this seems like it might be part of my problem as linuxmce overrides the usual mythtv permissions (mythtv:mythtv) with root:public.  myth-backend is running at the mythtv user rather than root, so it seems important that mythtv user be part of the public group in order to inherit write permissions!!

now, it seems odd that things are working at all.

assuming you have an MD or the core in your office you should, at a minimum, be able to load up the media you want and then using the Follow functionality in the floorplan send that media to the MD you want it playing at.  You can do that for each MD.

Not sure if maybe i've just overlooked something.

I took the step today to try to move my mythtv recording off of the old 120gb system drive i have in my core and onto my RAID5 array in the core.  I ran mythtv-setup on both the core and my MD to change the directories used for recording.  I went from using /home/public/data/videos/tv_shows_# (# being 1 on the core and 68 on the MD) to /home/public/data/videos/Main Storage Array [122]/tv_shows_# (Main Storage Array being my RAID5 with device id 122).  All I changed was the directory entry in mythtv-setup>General.  Things seemed to work okay (i had manually created the tv_shows_# directories on the raid and matched permissions to what was in the old directories) except that I am getting a LOT of system freezes on my MD since moving to the raid array for recording.  They happen on their own, but seem much more likely if I try to bring up the EPG.  I had NEVER seen a full system freeze before this (where I have to hit the reset button).
The only differences I can see are the differences in the directory sizes (is this the minimum block size? or just the size of the contents?) and the fact that the raid is controlled by automount so might be prone to disappear if it thinks its inactive?

my understanding is that its not possible (or at least not painless) as in a 3-drive RAID5 you have data split 50/50 between two drives and parity on the 3rd.  Moving to a 4-drive RAID5 would require data split 33/33/33 and the 4th drive as parity.

I could be wrong.

Apparently this was related to repeat counts on the codes that are sent.  the lrnhelper defaulted to a repeat count of 5, whereas (as we know) the A/V properties page Test Code button only sends once.  In the end, it turns out my codes do work, when sent using Send Command to Device from the advanced devices page for the receiver.

So, I've been fighting to get the codes for my surround sound system for the past week.  I have a Sony STR-750P and have had no luck either finding or learning the codes for it.  Today I finally got fed up and moved my USBUIRT to a windows machine, downloaded John Rhees' Lrnhelper.exe program and went to town.  It turns out the remote for my receiver sends single code bursts, non repeated.  Lrnhelper has a button that lets you accept the burst.  I went through and was able to successfully record and transmit codes for all the functions I want to use!!  Yay!!

Then I went back and plugged the USBUIRT into my MD, booted it up and went to start adding the codes I had recorded in windows into the A/V Properties for my receiver.  However, when I copy and paste the exact codes that worked under windows into the A/V properties page and try to test them, none of the work!!!!

I did a bit more testing on this today.  Using mythweb on my laptop I watched the status of my tuners.  In my living room I started LiveTV watching channel 330 on the STB in the living room.  I then looked in mythweb and it confirmed this.  Then, I hit Y and looked in mythweb and it showed me watching channel 501 on the tuner in the basement.  I used the remote in the living room to key in channel 334 and then in myth web confirmed that the tuner downstairs had tuned to that channel.

Only problem is that when not on the local source, my screen is just black.

Hi Seth,

The odd thing is, on my Core (which is in the basement with my desk) I can freely use the Y key to switch between the ExpressVu 4100 attached to the PVR-150 installed in the Core and the ExpressVu 4100 attached to the PVR-150 installed in the MD in my living room.  I can also use the V key to watch Picture-in-Picture on the Core.  However, if I try to do the same thing from the diskless MD in my living room, it fails to work.  I can only watch the feed that is local to the MD.

As for the HOWTO.  You can check http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Windows_MCE_Receiver for instructions.  I see that RWilson has added a bit too, and would like his confirmation that the SET_TRANSMITTER addition tells irsend which of the two outputs on the reciever to transmit over?  if so that's really cool!

One more update:

The entry that points at /mnt/device/122/public/data/videos (the path I originally specificied when ripping) has proper attributes and cover art associated with it, whereas the entry tha tpoints at /home/public/data/videos/Main Storage Array [122] does not.

Edit: I spoke too soon.  No sooner did I post that than updatemedia seems to have gotten around to filling out the details of the entry that points to /home/public/data/videos/Main Storage Array [122]
