Thanks guys, thats most helpful.

A while ago I was reading though the forums and I think I read that the kernel was patched, maybe I got the wrong end of the stick or it was talking about a very old version of LinuxMCE.

Thanks for your help.

Developers / 0710 device drivers

Hi all this is my first post here on the forum.  I have been watching the progress of LinuxMCE for a while now and have played about first with 0704 and I have just installed the new 0710 Beta 3.

I have a couple of questions/requests for the dev team.

1) In 0704 kernel support was included for devices like my old SoundBlaster Live! card.  This appears to be missing in 0710 beta 3.

2) I was looking forward for support of some of the newer (cheap) DVB cards/dongles.  On my other linux box (gentoo) I have already got an Afatech 9005 usb dvb dondgle working.  I have looked in the kernel config and the kernel version you are using seems to include the driver, but the option to build it was set off.

So in general is it feasable for all media based devices (read DVB/S/C cards, sound cards, remote controls (9005 has a specific kernel module) etc) to be build as modules as standard with the distributed kernel?  I am not suggesting these are all classed as "working"/"supported" by the linuxmce team or that you supply the firmware for all of the devices, but rather just allows individual users to try and get them working without having to rebuild the kernel.

Maybe another option would be for the kernel sources (with any linuxmce required patches) to be installed on the system so users can easily recompile the kernel if they want anything specific.

Any thoughts much appreciated.
