In regards to the case you are looing at, could you not get a taller tower unit and place each drive in it's own bay just so they are all easily accessable. Just makes it easier if one goes down and would probably be a lot easier to work on than having lots of cages.

Play.com are listing 4 different models and IMO I'd go for the cheapest one and swap out the hard drive for something a bit bigger. 

No point in paying for a Vista Premium license if you care going to put LMCE on it is there?

That system looks ok, I presume you have already had a good look through the wiki to check if it's all compatible?!?! I doubt if you will need 4Gb of RAM but that's up to you.

Just thought I would mention; you say you are planning on installing things like security, lighting,media and asterisk one at a time well LMCE will install it all and then you will just have to configure them as you are ready.  If I were you I would get as much equipment ready as possible for when you do the first install so you have at least got something to play with.

Also, is that all the storage you are planning on having or have you got a NAS box for all your data?

I've had similar experiences, sometimes the tones come through just fine and other times I get bounced to the unknown extension.  This normally happens if there is a lot of background noise tbh or if I am using the mobile on speakerphone.
Internally should always be fine due to lack of factors mentioned above and also by the fact that the call doesn't have to go round the entire POTS system before it hits your LMCE box.

When you say the tones sound OK to you are you measuring using anything or just pressing buttons and seeing what happens?
If you have dig on the net I'm sure there is a DTMF code decoder that you could play the tones too and see if it recognizes them.

This sounds like a great idea and like Andrew said it shouldn't be too difficult.

I was just thinking though, in the UK we have lots of repeats, so Top Gear which is originally shown on a Sunday night on BBC2 is broadcast again 3 times in the same week at different times on different BBC channels, so why record them all? Would there be a way of recording it once on the Sunday night and then linking that back to the EPG so when it is broadcast again a separate recording isn't made but just a pointer back to the original recording thus saving a huge amount of disc space.  The end user will not know where the recording is actually stored, they will just play the file they want.

I think this could come in very handy with HD where space does start to become a bit more limiting.

I've got a standalone Asterisk server for another project and I can use the keypad for navigating around(1 for this extensions ect). I'm using Sipgate as the provider so I don't know if that may have something to do with it. 
It may sound stupid but just check that you have tones enabled on your mobile phone.

Thanks for the quick reply. I thought it might do something like that and I presume it also grabs things like cover art?

I'll have to have a play with the raid because I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Almost all of the better cards will run under Linux it would just be a case of making sure I had all the right drivers and away it goes.

Regards to doing some developing, is there anywhere in particular that needs work at the moment that I could help someone with?

I've been quietly reading the forums for months now while oh slow slowly saving up to buy some new equipment, however I just have a couple of quick questions;
1) When ripping a DVD does it go off to Gracenote, or similar, to get all the information or does it just create a blank file which needs to be renamed and have meta data added to it?
2) How well does LinuxMCE handle hardware raid cards? I have been looking at building a reasonably large storage system with the core and was looking at using some Adaptec cards and couldn't see anything in the Wiki.

I'm not to bad at programming and would love to help in implementing some of these features if they aren't already done.
