Users / Re: ripping music cd's - BUGS
« on: November 08, 2007, 01:02:16 am »
sweet!

thanks for the help..... it now rips MP3's...  seems like that would be an easy fix for the next release.

-------------------
Anyone want to take a shot at the part where it drops the last track on the cd from the front end because it doesn't write all the information about it to the database?

Users / ripping music cd's - BUGS
« on: November 06, 2007, 01:21:40 am »
ok, i am looking at this from a complete users point of view, not going into any of the background stuff at all.

dvd install...  no mods, what it finds is what it gets...   burning media to a windows share that it found automatically.

pop the cd in and hit f7, then copy to disk.......

there are a couple of problems.

1. i have only been able to rip using ogg format,  if i change it to flac or mp3 on the install menu it fails. (didn't even look for an error log, ie playing dumb user. select the option and it should work right?)
2. when ripping music cd's to ogg format it consistently drops the last song.  it rips it and the file is in the directory, but it doesn't apply album information to the track so it doesn't show up on the list for play back when sorting by performer or album.  (did 4 cd's in a row and it was consistent and repeatable)
-------------

so i have a question. actually 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 but i will try to stick on subject.

Is the goal of this project to be user friendly driven enough that no scripting or knowledge of the os will be required to use it?

should mp3 rip work by default, does anyone know how to fix this, as i would prefer the more portable format for the media?

anyone else have the issue of it dropping the last track, is there a fix?  how do i get it?

-----------------------
i have programming knowledge but if the answer to the first question is yes, then i would prefer to better the project by reporting each item i find, as opposed to digging in and trying to fix it just for me.  i think this product has MASSIVE potential and would love to see it improve to the point where i can say to anyone:  "sure just put the dvd in and go,  it's easy and it all works perfectly"

Users / just installed linuxmce
« on: October 24, 2007, 02:36:01 am »
here is the hardware i used,  it's just an old pc i had laying around:
motherboard: kv8-pro
processor: amd64 3000+
video: BFG 6800GTX OC
disk: 200gb

using built in sound and no other devices,  just checking this out to see if i want to build a real LinuxMCE setup.

install went well until i ran into a black screen on reboot,  with this video card evidently you have to use the DVI port with a vga adapter to make it work. or at least that is what fixed my issue.

once i got the thing up and running i was bombed by all of the devices it found on my network.  it never occurred to me that it was going to find every share on every linux or windows machine i have running!  btw i had 8 machines going at the time and it took a while to sort it out......... i may need to look at isolating the media center on it's own VLAN so i can control what it sees. but  right now i am just testing things out so it was a good experience.

finally, i shared my media (music and pictures) on my main machine..  and it found the media and indexed it just fine...

so far i am very impressed.... i did not expect this mature of a product to tell you the truth.....  if the developers keep up the good work this could put Linux on the map in a big way!
i was going to load up vista ultima and compare the products. now i think i will just stick with linuxmce....

now to research all the hardware i will need for a smokin' media center setup...   :)     Let the fun begin!

just wanted to let everyone know my experience so far and to give kudo's to the people behind this project.

switched from the vga port to the dmi port with an adapter, all is well with the world.  install is flawless.

Installation issues / Re: Can't get hold of DVD installer

just curious, did you do a download verification in your torrent client before you burned you dvd.

sometimes with large downloads a block will end up being incomplete and the verification will identify it and go get a new copy.

if you still have it in your torrent client, try that and see if it re-downloads anything.   just a guess, as i downloaded the torrent with 0 problems.  now my install is another story, for another thread.

i am having the EXACT same problem,
when i boot to blank screen i can go through numbers 1-5, with no result other than a beep after each number...  still no video.  all was working wonderfully until linuxmce install. i ran the test and everything showed up perfectly with my 6800gt card.  My first attempt to install linuxmce.

i am installing this on an old pc to see if it is something i can do and would like.
amd64 3000+
bfg 6800gtoc
<dont' rember which mb,  maybe a ad77 infinity dfi board>
1gig ram
200gb hard drive
-----------------

after reading more i wish i was at home, i think i may know how to fix this.  could be that i have video plugged in to wrong output.  but if that was the case, why would kubuntu work perfectly but avwizzard fail?  just curious.....
