You don't say much about your equipoment.  Which version of LMCE are you running?  If the PVR-250 comes with the same type of IR receiver (SMK on the back) and remote (RC6 on the back) as the PVR-150 and you are using LMCE 0704, your problem is that the SMK receiver is not supported out of the box by LMCE 0704.  You might want to check this thread.

I have also seen this scrolling-to-the-left behavior on my core/hybrid, which has an Nvidia card, but it only happens when the system is getting ready to shutdown.  The rest of the time, the image is stable.

I don't really know what could be wrong with your configuration.  I see you used the latest lirc source code.  One of the threads I read while trying to resolve the MCE remote problem warned about installing the latest lirc beta version, as it could contain code that was not supported under the current LMCE version.  For this reason, I downloaded the same lirc version 0.8.2 (official release) source code used in LMCE 704 and then overlaid the lirc_mceusb2 module source code version 1.37.  Thus, only updating the small part of lirc required to support the MCE remote with the SMK receiver.  Follow the instructions I wrote in my thread.

Again, I am not sure if this is your problem, but this is what worked for me.  Support for the MCE remote and SMK receiver is supposedly included in LMCE 710, as mentioned by several other persons in this forum.  Date for the 710 release is delayed though.

Hello Andrew and Zaerc

First I want to thank you guys for all the help you so graciously give out to everyone in this forum.  I am a fairly advanced PC user, mostly in the Windows side.  I have been using Linux servers for about eight years now (Red Hat 5.2 was my first experience), and I find that LMCE is not the easiest thing to install and configure.

Ok, back to my point.  I deleted xorg.conf and restarted the AVWizard, and selected 720p resolution, with the same result: the image is slighly larger than the TV screen and shifted to the left.  I was actually surprised to see that the AVWizard correctly picked the Nvidia driver.

I then followed the procedure suggested by Andrew through the admin web panel with the same result (image larger than screen).  Conclusion, no luck with the AVWizard or the admin web panel for 720p  .

Finally, I tried resetting the xorg.conf file copying and pasting the modeline from the backup file for 1280x768 resolution at 60hz, which worked fairly well with the VGA cable.  I kept the DVI to HDMI cable connected.  After rebooting, the image came out at the same size as the screen.  I had to tweak the LMCE GUI to get it to size properly and fill the whole screen.  It turned out to have a 5% reduction factor set, which I took out (with the admin web panel). 

So now I have a working configuration at 1280x768 being fed to the TV through the DVI port of my graphics card to the HDMI port of the TV.  Everything appears to be working Ok.  The image is sized and placed correctly.  Frankly, I cannot tell the difference with this setup from the previous one using the VGA port.  On the other hand, my TV appears to have the same image sizing issue with 720p being fed from a PC either through VGA or HDMI.

Any additional suggestions?

This is to report that I got the DVI to HDMI cable from Amazon.com.  I hooked it up to the graphics card and my LCD TV.  I backed up my xorg.conf file, and asked to change the screen resolution with the AVWizard.  Upon rebooting, the Wizard gave me a blank screen to the DVI port, so I rebooted and then pressed 1 when entering the Wizard and that activated the output to DVI.  I used the AVWizard to set the output to DVI at 720p resolution and 60hz refresh rate.  Finished the wizard, but unfortunately, the image is again slightly larger than the screen, off center and shifted to the left.

I would say it looks the same as the problem I reported earlier when running 720p resolution via the VGA port to the TV.

I reinstalled the VGA cable and restored the xorg.conf file to how it was before.  So I guess the DVI to HDMI experiment did not turn out as good as expected.  What else can I try? I haven't tried it yet, but I would like to try to restart the X11 configuration from default, to try and give the AVWizard a clean slate with which to start over.  Can I simply delete the xorg.conf file?

Yes, I am comparing the cable tv signal when fed directly from the coaxial cable to the antenna port in the tv, to the image when playing Mythtv using my PVR-150 capture card fed from the same cable tv signal.  The coaxial cable is connected to the PVR-150 antenna port and the output is fed to the tv via the vga port at 1280x768 resolution.  The image when playing DVDs is very good but not as good when watching Mythtv.

I live in Panama, so the tv standard is NTSC.  Do you know how to configure the different mpeg-2 recording data rates in Mythtv?  My suspicion is that Mythtv may be using a low data rate and thus the quality of the image is suffering.

Users / TV image quality issue

Hi guys,
I can watch TV in LMCE and rewind or fast forward in MythTV, but the image quality, although acceptable, is noticeably lower than what I get using the direct cable connection to my LCD TV.  My capture card is a Hauppauge PVR-150 and my onboard video card is an Nvidia FX 5700.  Image quality when playing ripped DVDs or navigating the GUI is perfect.  How can I improve the image from MythTV so that I don't feel I had to give up something in order to use LMCE?  I have been searching the mythtv setup screens but I can't find something that will improve the image. 

Could it be TV image resolution set too low? 
Could it be MPEG-2 compression set too high? 
How are these things set? 

I haven't changed any settings in Mythtv from the default LMCE installation aside from setting up the PVR-150 tuner1 connection to the cable supplier.

I have an MSI K9N Neo V3 with an AMD 64 X2 5000+ processor and I just recently configured this PC as a remote media director.  I believe it is a standard ATX motherboard.  It works very well booting from the core/hybrid through the network using PXE.  The only problem I am still working on is in getting to see the TV stream from the PVR-150 capture card installed in the core.  I can watch videos stored in the core without any problem.

Installation issues / Can't get TV stream in remote Media Director

Hi everyone,
I have been working with LMCE for about a month now.  After some problems at the beginning I now have a working Core/Hybrid with UI2 and alpha blending in my family room.  I can watch TV here with MythTV without problems and the MCE remote control works.  My TV capture card is a Hauppauge PVR-150 MCE.  My video card in the core is an Nvidia FX 5700.

Here is my problem.  I am also trying to setup a remote media director in my study room.  The media director is my new PC, except I boot up using PXE through the network instead of booting up from its hard disk.  I am able to start up LMCE UI2 with alpha blending and everything looks great.  I updated the video graphics driver to the latest Nvidia driver.  I can use the GUI and watch the ripped DVDs stored in the core.  However, I cannot watch TV with Mythtv from this media director.  All I get is a black screen and no sound when I press the watch TV option in Mythtv.  I followed the LMCE documentation for Mythtv setup without joy.

Hardware in the MD PC includes an MSI K9N mobo, AMD 64 X2 5000+ processor, 2GB DDR800 RAM, double DVI port Nvidia 8600GT video card, 250GB SATA hard disk and twin Samsung 17inch CRT monitors.

I must be missing something.  Please help.

I think I got the off center image resolved yesterday.  Checking the TV documentation, I found it doesn't list 720p as a supported resolution using the VGA port; only using the HDMI port.  Since I have not been able to get a DVI to HDMI cable locally (I had to order one from Amazon), I tried changing to another resolution.

After playing with the System Settings under KDE, I got it to work quite well choosing a "Generic Flat Panel" with a resolution of 1280x768@60hz, which is close to 720p.  The image is finally sized exactly to the screen.  It took several reboots for these settings to "take" (don't really understand why).  I would set everything perfect in KDE and after rebooting I was getting a different resolution, or a horrendously big GUI.  It seemed to me LMCE was sometimes rewriting the xorg.conf file.  Luckily I had made a backup copy of the correct file and was able to reset the video properties back to where they were.

I couldn't find a way to have the AVWizard list this resolution so in the end, I had to do everything by hand in xorg.conf.  I also deleted all the modelines with resolutions above 1280x768.  It worked well, though.  The only thing is I won't be able to run the AVWizard again.

I am running out of time on the Schedules Direct free trial.  I am not opposed to paying the fee.  However, it would be pointless to pay the subscription if I won't be able to modify the channel lineup to accommodate my cable supplier's unlisted lineups.  Any suggestions anyone?

I thought a bit about what you said about the VGA port connection to the TV being the possible cause of my problem with having the screen image off center shifted to the left while running LMCE.  If this were the case, shouldn't the problem show itself regardless of the operating system?  However, the shifting and oversize only appears when running Kubuntu/LMCE.  I did not have this problem when running Windows XP with the same hardware and screen resolution.  I would guess this points more in the direction of the video graphics driver or its configuration.  Is there a way of tweaking the video card configuration?

Hi all,
I live in Panama.  I got my LMCE box updated to connect to Schedules Direct.  I opened my Schedules Direct account, I have been able to log in and extract data to Mythtv.  My free 7 days will expire in a couple of days now.  Panama was supposedly included for now in the SD lineups with no guarantees after Dec 1.  Moreover, my cable supplier is called "Cableonda" and is not listed among the options.  So it seems I am up the creek, with no solution at all for getting lineups for my location.

Here is my idea.  Is there a way to easily remap the program guide database to the actual channels used in my location?  It doesn't sound like something too hard to do in MySQL with maybe a translation table.  This way, I could continue my subscription to Schedules Direct, download the lineups from a listed cable supplier in, say Miami, run this information through a translation filter and relocate the listed channels (Fox Sports, A&E, Food TV, etc) to the channel number my local supplier has them in.  I guess I would need to find a listed source in the same time zone that I live so that only the channel number needs to be remapped.  I can imagine there should be plenty of interest in being able to do something like this for all the areas that are not covered by Schedules Direct.

I would appreciate any help or guidance on how to solve my predicament.
