Installation issues / Re: DHCP does not seem to work!!!
« on: October 10, 2007, 02:31:43 am »
???
Listers

I have finally installed LinuxMCE on one of my machines.  However, DHCP does not seem to be broadcasted.  I have 2 usb ethernet interfaces attached to the machine (eth1 and eth2).

eth2 is the connection to the internet (and is working fine) with add 192.168.1.2/255.255.255.0
eth1 is the connection that DHCP should be broadcasted (default add, i.e 192.168.80.1)

When I set my laptop to static address (192.168.80.100/255.255.255.0), connected to a devlo dLan, I can access the LinuxMCE Web admin.  I checked /etc/network/interfaces and, in web admin, CORE>My Devices>Device Data>Network interfaces (string is: eth2,192.168.1.2,255.255.0.0,192.168.1.1,192.168.1.1|eth1,192.168.80.1,255.255.255.0)and all seem fine.

I really do not see what it is not working and certainly do not want to set a static address on my laptop everytime i connect.

Please help.

From my experience even if you change the setting sometimes they don't affect how the interface at Advanced>Network>Network Settings.
Can you verify that the setting there reflect the settings that you are trying to configure
Next can you verify which one of the USB Ethernet adapters is eth1 and eth2. (an just a though, if you have an on board Ethernet adapter why don't you use that?)

Installation issues / Re: Removed Device Still Present on Orbiter

Ok I got better video by changing around the Setting on the Camera not in MCE's control string. But it still perfect but it is good enough for now..

Now I want to use the motion sensor that is embedded on the front of the camera. I have no idea how to add it. So I tried to go under configuration > devices
and I added a child device to the camera but either I added the wrong template or I didn't do something else right. It still doesn't work but now when you arm the security system it had the kick ass "Arming in 30 seconds" Makes me giddy to hear it, and I laugh like an evil scientist.

Ok, so I got the camera working now. I had to manually remove the scenarios and after a bunch of adding the device and deleting the device I got it to generate everything fine. Now the problem that I am having is that the Picture is really slow. About one frame every 2 sec. And sometimes it doesn't even load the entire picture only a fraction of it. I tried to reduce the resolution but it is already at 320x240. I wanted to change the quality to Low but I don't know if I am using the correct syntax in the configuration string.

If I connect it with a wire link I get better performance but only to about 1 frame per second. Where should I look to find more information about this. I didn't see much on Panasonic Cameras in the wiki

Thanks for the Great tip about the scenarios I would have not seen that for a long time!

I tried a full Regen and reload but had no effect.

Then I looked at the security scenarios. I did still have the scenarios in place. I removed them all and they were removed from the orbiter. Now I am going to try and put the camera in manually associating the correct template with the MAC address.

Installation issues / Removed Device Still Present on Orbiter

I have been trying to setup my Panasonic IP camera with MCE. I had it working on a different install but it was a big work around as the camera wasn't doing real DHCP it would get the info then decide on it's own IP.

But now I have DHCP working with the camera. When I boot the camera MCE finds it and I am prompted to setup the device on the orbiter. I can add it but the IP camera that I added before is still on the Orbiters screen and the new one is no where to be found. I even removed all IP camera and I still have the Panasonic IP Camera button present on the orbiter. The device isn't in the device tree in the admin site either. The orbiter is the only reference to the non-existant IP camera. I can even click the button and see the controls for the non-existent camera.

(Also I used the Quick Install DVD and I don't know the root password if I am going to need it for a command line.)

Many Thanks for any help in any direction!!

Installation issues / Re: TFTP File not found Errors when MD's PXE

That didn't work either...

I think that I am going to go with a fresh install. I need to change out my NIC as well. I haven't put much on the system so I am not losing anything but time.

Thanks everyone for there help. I didn't even know where to start.

Thank you both for the help so far!!

I tried to setup diskless MD's and the admin site runs through it's configs but I sill fail to find files when tftp tries to run.

I also renamed the File in pxelinux.cfg and came to the same result.

In /tftpboot/ I also saw that I had two folders each with two items. They were /tftpboot/42 and /tftpboot/54. 42 and 54 are the numbers that were assigned to MD's in the past but they didn't work. I renamed then as well and saw no change.

I am using this PC normally but MCE finds it and asks me to set it up as a file server. Could the MAC address be recognized else where in MCE that would cause it to get a 192.168.80.248 IP instead of the 192.168.80.2 IP that I got when it booted with bad graphics config?

Again thanks for the Help!!

I have also received the CIFS VFS errors in the past. I had one install that would only give me CIFS VFS errors with no other results. I didn't mess around to much with it. I just started a fresh install. The second time that I received the error, I will still able to use the systems normally (as far as I could tell). I did have success once with going under devices and setting the MD to re-configure. I know that you can send a similar action via the command prompt but I don't remember what it is. But beware I also broke my entire system (a few times) when I started messing in the device list and I am new to MCE so don't do it unless someone else says that this wont break your system. (I don't trust me yet).

Good Luck!

Installation issues / Re: Install Woes

When I tried to install from CD's I was getting errors as well, but this wasn't a vmware solution. The md5 checked out as well. I would get a disc cashe failure when copying and if it didn't then I would get errors down the line. Copying the ISO's to the HD seems to be the only way that I get get through an install.

Installation issues / TFTP File not found Errors when MD's PXE
« on: October 01, 2007, 06:47:15 pm »
I have a fresh install of MCE. I am using a Hybrid Core and and it is working. I wanted to add another MD when I did it I messed up the video and couldn't get the MD to work. So I went into the admin site and deleted the malfunctioning MD. Now I can't get any new MD's to start I can only use the Hybrid MD.

I get a TFTP file not found error when I try to PXE the same computer or another.

Do I needed to rebuild the TFTP files?
