Users / Abit AN-M2HD install using DVD or CD has problems

  Just tried to install LinuxMCE 7.10 64 bit AMD DVD on a Abit AN-M2HD with one on board gigabit Lan port and a Gigabit Lan card.  The DVD install goes smoothy till one gets to the Add Software where nothing is listed.  Both the AV wizard and "When you can you see and here me" go well.  At the MCE creeen flicker is not running indicating that the network is not working.

When installing from CD all works properly including the AV wizard but there is no sound at "When you can see and hear me".  Movies and music have no sound in linux MCE.  Flicker works and both gigabit networks cards work properly.

Suggestions for getting the audio to work.

I'm having lockup problems with the last two versions.  Before that, other problems but no lockups.  It's a screen and mouse lockup, the rest of LINUXMCE appears to be working.  Within a few seconds of fast scrolling or copying many .mp3 files over the network while playing and slow scrolling, it will lock it up.

Again, recommended hardware that was absolutely stable prior to the last two version changes.

Try using HDMI or DVI at 1080I or 720P to a good TV (transparancy turned off).  This has the TV doing the video and not the video card.  This eliminates all problems.

Tearing, stuttering and interlace issues all appear to go away when you use the DVI out rather than component or VGA out and input the DVI to a HDMI port on a good TV.  The TV takes the data stream and converts it to video rather than require the video card in the computer to do this.

DVI out using 720P or 1080I resolution with transparancy off.  Perfect picture.

Mine came with the Rs-232 codes to control the TV.  Haven't implemented it yet.  The USB is for service on newer samsungs.

Yup, done the same thing, same results.  I wonder if there is a bug with the AMD64 version of CSS.sh.  Or if the update shell even checks for machine version.

Remote MDs can't play CSS DVDs previously ripped to core, all other DVDs and video files play.  All video files play on the core.

CSS library is installed on remote MD and I tried the restricted software installation guide and reinstalled.  During this my MD command line said I needed to install Deb helper and fakeroot.  Installed them and still will not play CSS DVDs stored on the core on any media director except core.

I've got  a PS3 and didn't think anything of using it for a MD untill the release of the Playstation Camera.  It has a stereo mike and a very high resolution camera for $39.00.  Bottom end systems come in at $390 with 40 gig HD, gigabit eithernet, HDMI, Blue Ray DVD, 4 USB ports.

As a MD it makes a good system, Compact and powerful.  The economy of scale for this system makes it attractive.

I installed 7.10 beta 3 amd64 on the core and everything is flawless.  BUT, the dreaded but, I can't install the additional software; libcss, HD ripping tools and  64 bit codecs for windows video software.  On the Core I could install these software packages but the 64 bit MD will not.  I get a Download for valid source for software failed.

Network is up and running properly.  Internet OK and accessable from the MD.

I downloaded the LinuxMCE Beta 3 amd64 DVD (3.9 gig) in 8 hours.  I did not upgrade, I did a clean Install.  It was very quick.  All my display issues with the Video and Audio Media player options are fixed.  The video display is more stable.  I can still see a tear but it is occasional now rather than persistent.  I chose 720P DVI without transparent masking. 

A nice new feature is the Screen savers ability to allow you to choose the pictures that are displayed. 

With multiple MD's installed it appears faster, snappy. 

I do have a problem  I probably created.  IF you are in the US choose Myth TV, do not choose VDR.  You get only one choice.  At the present time if you run the wizard to try to choose Myth after choosing VDR it will break something and VDR will have issues.

I can confirm that after the initial install MD's boot in about 2 min on a Gigabit lan.  Not much longer on a 100 megabit lan either but I have noticed some lag for certain screens. (lag= 2-3 seconds)

The files have not been moved.  The database was told by you to look in all folders under /home for any audio or video files that can be displayed/played by Linuxmce and add the PATH and FILENAME to the database and display them in the proper areas (Video, Audio).  The files have not been moved, the path and filename was added to the database.

In the administration web page under media files and sync you can delete the database listings (individually...hard way in your case) or use the command by "chris" (2 listings above) to delete all listings in the data base.  You will then need to resync only the folders containing media you want displayed.  Or as totallymaxed stated wait on Mediaupdate to occur.  Media update will not look in the folders above data on the core but will look in just about any shared folder on your network for media files.

   That did it.  Do I do the same on each MD to have mp3 CD rip support?

Is there eanything else I should be installing that I should have known but didn't because I haven't read the docs?

In Add software you have the option of installing w32codecs which I believe allows the ripping of mucic CDs.  This will not install, you can choose it but the hourglass icon indicating that it is in the process of installing never goes away and CDs will not rip.

I recently did a fresh install of LinuxMCE 7.04. 12/14/07

Has the software been removed from the mirror, I chose the Georgia Tech mirror

1. I took a usb pen, copied some mp3 over it and plugged into MD. then managed to play mp3 from usb pen, with same bad quality.

This proves that network transfers are not implied in this issue, as I get the same result playing network files and local files.

If you plug any drive into a MD the file goes to the core thru the network and then back to the MD thru the network to be played.  What you have done is confirm it is not a MD hardware issue but your network and or core could be the problem.
