I have a similar problem with windows shares, only they just seem to unmount themselves (It doesn't take a restart to lose them). I have read somewhere on these boards that it is believed to be a problem with cifs. I don't know if that is the same problem you are experiencing or not. I would check what filesystem is being used for sharing that drive. If it is cifs then this is probably caused by the same thing. I am not aware of any fix for this other than hacking around linux MCE. Search on CIFS for more info.

It is a very frustrating problem. In my case the files are showing up, but when you go to play them the cannot be found. When I check the problem the device is not mounted, however through the Kubuntu desktop I can navigate to the share so it definately is available.

Your audio files wouldn't happen to be Ogg files would they? I am having trouble with a library of music where the MP3 all show up but the OGG files only show up when sorted by filename. Like you said I think it is a problem with MCE reading the tags in the OGG format. Not sure if it carries over to things like movies and other music formats.

When I installed MCE it only had 1 interface card. ETH0. I have added a second card for the internal network. Kubuntu shows 2 cards ETH0 and ETH2. However; LinuxMCE only shows ETHO and ETH0:0 both of which have the same mac address per the view IP address from Launch Manager.

Here is the info from Advanced=>Network=>Network Settings

Can anyone suggest how to get MCE to identify the second card and use DHCP server on it? Do I have to reinstall?

Users / Update Media Daemon

I have seen threads about MCE not writing the tags when ripping CD's, but I was wondering if anyone else has had the problem that the update media daemon (I assume this is the responsible application) does not write the tags when finding new .ogg files. I have an internal drive with many albums and have found that the media is identified and in the database, but only the mp3's have their tags. None of the .ogg files have any kind of tag, and they account for 95% or more of my media.

If this is the case does anyone know if this is being worked on, I haven't seen any other thread on this subject so I am not sure if this is even a typical problem. Other programs such as winamp and WMP both seem to recognize the tags on the same files i.e. they display artist, album and title info.

I found the media. It only shows up when filtered by title. Apparently either the .ogg format does not have info encoded to the file to determine other info such as album or artist, or the linux mce software doesn't scan for it. I need to look into .ogg more.

I have the same issue. It is annoying, but I also suspect it contributes to the over all system lag that I am experiencing. In my case it is a windows share that continously "re-presents". This in combination with the problems I am having with my previous post "Media HDD" leads me to believe there are still issues to be worked out in the media detection scripts.

Am I missing something. I have a second HDD installed on sdb1. LinuxMCE identified it and mounted it under /home/public/data/other.
The drive has about 3,000 .ogg files on it and a handfull of .mp3. They are stored as follows:

/home/public/data/other/Internal HDD-CORE (sdb1) [38]/music/"ARTIST"/"ALBUM"/"TITLE"

In the web admin all folders show both on the HDD and in the database.

However in the Orbiter only the .mp3 files show up. They are all in the same directory with ARTIST = Various and ALBUM = Various. Nothing outside of this directory is visible from the orbiter. If I go to the desktop I can navigate to the folder and play the files with no problem.

My question is how do I help the Orbiter see the other files?

Oh yeah the drive has been installed since installation on this install because I had the same problem after adding the drive after set last time both internally and via usb. This installation has been up for about 8 hours. On the last install the sysem seemed to noticeably slow down once the drive was added, and again this time it seems to be moving slower with periods of freezing for a few seconds. I thought it may have been updating and cataloging, but after 8 hours I tend to doubt that would still be the case.
