I've been there chap.

I can edit a GSD and add a group - but it comes up with some pre-allocated stuff - of which I have no idea where this comes from and i cant see that I can add my own.

Additionally, this still doesnt help me tie this in with the Security panel already in LinuxMCE

So, lets step back a bit. On the default 0704 DVD install, there is a security panel. Looks good for me. It asks to enter a PIN. it works by you entering a 4 digit code THEN it send it as a 4 digit string.

What I need is to simplify this - press a button and it immediately sends that digit down the RS232. Nothing more. Youd think this would be simple. I could spend a week solid reading all the docs and still not get very far - its an immensely complex and powerful system and the startup curve is high.

But how you map this screen to be able to fire off a rs232 command has beaten me so far. has no one managed to do this ? Or perhaps it just cannot be done ?

I want to use LMCE to link into my Comfort alarm system. Very popular high end system that also has a massive range of automation controls. To do this, I need to emulate the alarm keypad (same buttons as a telephone).

For example, as soon as you press a button on LMCE (ie 1) all it does it send 'KD01' down the RS232 port - nothing more (at this time).

This is an extremely high end alarm with many features and been around for 10 years or so.

Can LMCE do this ? You dont press 1234 as a sequence then send that in one go, you send a command as soon as you press a button.

So say your signin code is 1234#, the sequence would be :

Press 1 on the LMCE Security Keypad screen
LMCE send KD01 down the RS232 port

Press 2 on the LMCE Security Keypad screen
LMCE send KD02 down the RS232 port

Press 3 on the LMCE Security Keypad screen
LMCE send KD03 down the RS232 port

Press 4 on the LMCE Security Keypad screen
LMCE send KD04 down the RS232 port

Press # on the LMCE Security Keypad screen
LMCE send KD0C down the RS232 port

You seem to infer about getting info from the panel back to LMCE ?

For the moment, there's no need for that. Just want to fire off the RS232 commands to the panel - no need for any ACKs.

Lets not run before we can walk :-)

I thought that was pretty specfic :-)

to be honest i want to know if he got it working - i know linuxmce can do it - i just have run out of talent.

what i need is to fire off the characters 0-9 and # down the rs232 port - as soon as the character is pressed - the default security screen appears to only send a complete login string once all the numbers are entered.

Those docs appear to be lacking some padding - either hard to follow or they dont match what I see on screen.

Cytech Comfort Alarm system. Just need keys 0-9,* and # - each one just send a simple command. Doing this simulates a keypad.

So presing 1234# in sequence would actually log you into the system then you can do more things, etc. Useful for arming/disarming plus more.

Had a play with MainLobby a while back - worked all right - but slow as a dog and no use for an alarm panel login system. Hence trying LinuxMCE - basically cause it's linux based.

So if any bright spark knew how to add some simple RS232 commands as above, you'd get a lot of Comfort users around the world very interested indeed.

No problem, now someone else needs to tell you how to set up the RS232 as I haven't got the foggiest.
But it would help if you tell us what it is, manufacturer and model.

Hi - one NIC - it's a ThinkPad

OK, i loaded up the pluto admin - I found that - didnt work - so replaced dcerouter with the loopback and I got in.

Turned off DHCP and disabled the firewall - now I can admin remotely on the LAN. Will have a play about. As long as I can get this thing to emulate my alarm keypad and fire off the RS232 commands down the wire, it's an option.

If not, format is-a-coming :-)

Plan was to try this as a touchscreen for the Alarm and Integrated lighting/mains control system. So I only need a single RS232 connection to my panel. Nothing else at the moment.

At the moment, I cant get to anything to configure this thing - no web admin access whatsoever. It's got a valid lan ip on a valid subnet. I presume this can all be config'ed from the webadmin ?

Just nothing - not a 'not found', just no server will respond.

Didnt realise this has it's own DHCP - cant see why on earth it would need to - thought it was a media center.

sorry, just to make sure. you have no trouble pinging the IP but its not accepting web requests? what kind of error does the page give? not found, access denied...something like that?

The network settings (ie IP) per se dont need to be changed - as it has a valid IP address.

The http daemon just aint responding

ok. go play with samme and trout and have a good time. ill know better than to apologize to a douche for being mistaken next time.

Nope, failed again, you still look like a stupid jackass. 

Back on topic:

Search the forum for eth0:0 and you should be able to find a thread with a lot of info on changing the network settings, it often has to be done in several places (depending on what you're trying to achieve).

The router here is irrelevant. The LinuxMCE box IP on the LAN is 192.168.0.20 dished out by the router. Install downloaded a load of stuff from t'internet.

Is there a LinuxMCE net config to check ? Or is it low level linux ?

You don't need "http" in front, Firefox/IE/Opera/K will figure it out.
However, what is the IP of your router?
My guess is 192.168.1.1, same as your LMCE box

I'[m getting the IP off the LinuxMCE screen - shows internal ip (192.168.1 addy) then IP from my DHCP, etc.

is it just http://ipaddress ?

As for RS232 - there's mention of adding a generic device but the options it mentions just dont exist on 0704 as far as I can tell.
