My DSL modem IS a router. I have no way arround it. WTF do I do to get this installed from the quick install disk?

So its magically detected my Remote now... sweet
It still wouldn't detect my windows shares. So I mounted them as drives under /mnt/ But of course, LinuxMCE doesnt look there?!?
Then I stumbled accrossed the fact that Linux MCE wants to be my networks DHCP server? Why!?!?!?!
Anyways, so I shut off my routers DHCP, let LMCE take over and it started to detect my folders... over and over and over
It detected the same folders over and over again. I kept accepting and it kept detecting. Finally it finished but there was still no media.
I rebooted (manually, there is no reboot option, lol) and when it came back up it again detected the same folders over and over again. Then it started to detect itself, over and over.... Meanwhile my wife was trying to surf the internet... but couldn't because the LMCE box pegged my 100MB/Sec router. Every light to every computer was blinking so fast they looked solid. After about 20min of this I pulled the LMCE CAT5 so she could get on the net.

Ok, I thought that they had finally created a version of linux that would be easy to install... HAHAHAHAHA wow... lol
Anyway... So LinuxMCE doesnt detect any of my media, anywhere on my network. It has abouta dozen buttons that I dont need and can't seem to get rid of (Lighting, security, Telecom, etc...) and every time I try to change the config of the thing it breaks the orbiter and I have to go through the hour long install all over again. It didn't detect my joysticks, my windows remotes, and it likes to jump from analog to DVI output randomly during setup so I have to have 2 monitors plugged in just to keep up.
How, on earth, are you guys using this at all? It just seems hopelessly broken to me.

I have the Asus MN2-E MB, so I give you the ins and outs of it, it shouldn't be too different than the one your thinking of.
Heat pipe = No noisy chipset fan
Only 1 bios chip (no backup) but the chip is removable if you need to replace it.
Do NOT use the Asus live update thing. Crashed my bios with it, not even a replacement chip would fix it, had to RMA the board.
Sata connectors are directly behind the PCI-E Slot. Depending on the legth of your video card and number of drives, you could have issues. I have an X1900XT (big card) and it makes all but 2 of the connectors useless. Luckly I only needed the 2 drives.

Users / Could I watch movies over a wireless connection?

If I build an LMCE box, I will have to connect it to my network via a Wireless Nic. My router has a speed of 54MB while wireless (I havent tried it before though)
If I get a 54MB wireless nic, will that be fast enough to watch movies that are stored on my main computer on a windows shared drive?

Are any of those powerfull enough that the transmitter wouldn't have to be pointed at the TV? I plan on having the LMCE box under the TV so the IR wouldnt be pointed directly at it.

It's an Insignia NS-27HD Flat-tube High Def TV with a 4:3 Aspect ration (when displaying High-def 16x9 it puts black bars at the top and bottom)
The manual shows the port but it says "For technician use"
Possibly I could get an IR Blaster? Do they make a "Learning" IR Blaster? So I could possibly just record by TV's origional remote?

I'm thinking of building a LMCE box out of spare parts I have... one of the primary reasons I want to is that I have a VERY weird Insignia HDTV that I can not control with any universal remote (I've tried them all)
One thing I was wondering about: My TV doesn't have an RS232 port, but it does have something labeled "Serial Port" but it's a white connector with several in-line pins almost like what you'd find on a motherboard. Anyone know what this is? Or if I just need an adapter?
