I have this same problem with my Gyration MCE Universal Remote. F7 pulls up the orbiter, but nothing on my remote does so.

How can I remap the keys on my remote?

I loaded some of my completely tagged to ID3v2 (including embedded album art) into /home/public/data/audio and tried to play it with LMCE, but all that shows up is just big blue squares. The names show down the right side, but when I try to "Play All," nothing happens. So then I click one of the big blue squares, and it takes me to the album listing now. Then I try "More>Play All" again, and still nothing. So I click on the big blue square for the album and it takes me to a track listing. "More>Play All" FINALLY!!! It plays.

So I thought these big blue squares were supposed to be album art?

Now I right click to take me back to the main screen... OH WAIT, I CAN'T JUST VIEW THE PHOTOS! It shows me a few of the tracks, the artist, the album the current playing track, and the track position. I right click to try and hide that and/or bring up the menu, but noooooo, it just flashes.

Will I have these problems if I install LMCE 1.0? 1.1B2 FTL.

P.S. I'm using a gyration universal MCE remote, and the pause button doesn't work. Neither does the play button. Only buttons that work are Stop, Fast Forward, Rewind, Next, and Previous. This means that I can't pull out of a fast forward/rewind. What gives?

Well, adjusting the mouse speed works great...until I restart LinuxMCE.

Can we get an option to set the mouse speed? And I'd LOVE to be able to keep the repeating key setting on while in LinuxMCE...

That slow mouse speed is annoying as hell.

I was just wondering if there was any way to adjust the mouse speed that LinuxMCE switches to when it is launched. It kills me running 1080p and having to basically do a 180º turn with my body (not really, but it does hurt my wrist if I don't back-track without the mouse enabled) to get the cursor all the way across the screen with my Gyration MCE Univseral Remote.

Also, is there any way to hide the mouse cursor on the home screen/screen saver? I always have to move it to the bottom right corner to get it out of view, and that's quite annoying too...

I finally got UI2 working after many many tries. I must say that I LOVE the Ken Burns effect flickr screen saver!!! That is VERY cool. I think that is my favorite feature of this whole software package!

If I remember correctly, no computer can support full 1080p at this time due to no video cards having HDMI. Of course, yes, you can set your resolution to 1920x1080 (1080p), and use a DVI-to-HDMI adapter, but you'll only be putting out 1080i I believe.

Just run 1080i with the LinuxMCE built-in de-interlacing feature.

Just my 2¢, but I've decided that I'm going to go with the USB-UIRT since it's so widely compatible (eg. HomeSeer, Pluto [Pluto was built around the USB-UIRT], Girder, etc).

Also, the USB-UIRT can be updated via the USB cable. Big plus!

What about the clearish buttons at the top for "PC" "TV" "AUX" and "CAB/SAT?" Are these are to press on your remote?

I ran across Linux MCE and the features seemed cool, but the one thing that got me, I know it's silly but I liked it, was that while the system was idle it displayed picture on my TV from flickr.

This is honestly my #1 favorite feature of the whole program. Those Flickr photos look so good on a 42" at 1080i/p.

But as for the versioning, 1.0 is very stable, but utmost requires a clean install of Ubuntu (NOT Kubuntu). 1.1 is currently in the beta stage (beta 2 to be exact), which means it is not completely stable, but it's not a final release. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_cycle#Beta)

If you want a stable version of LinuxMCE, please install 1.0. It runs on Ubuntu (Gnome), not Kubuntu (KDE 3.5), which has a few draw-backs, one of which is that it cannot support two sessions of X running the nvidia driver, so one has to use the vesa driver and the other has to use the nvidia driver. One of the main problems with 1.0 is that it heavily modifies your system configration, which is why it is recommended to install it on a blackbox.

I might end up installing 1.0 if this 10th and final install of 1.1B2 fails. I will find out when I get home early this week.

The component buttons on this Gyration remote are hard to select. I have to either use a key, or press the button a few times REALLY HARD until it selects the proper component.

I'm hoping it's just a defective remote, though. Other than that, I like the "x" instead of the "i" button next to the <- back button. Looks cooler!

I think that selecting UI2 shouldn't even be an option for install. It seems that too many are reporting problems with it, so it would make sense to default to UI1 and allow the user to try UI2 after a successful install.

The best way to do this would be to image your hard drive right after you setup Kubuntu, then stick that image on a CD, DVD, USB flash driver or something of that nature. That'll allow you to copy the image, then boot directly to the hard drive.

I have yet to do this, and I think I'm on my 10th install of Kubuntu and LinuxMCE now! I got it working great with UI1, but I wasn't very impressed, so I decided to try and step it up to UI2. That was over 4 installs ago.

I bought one of these yesterday, but haven't been home yet to try it on LinuxMCE.

Does anyone use this remote? If so, is it hard to press the top row of component buttons to switch components? I've noticed that I have to squish the button REALLY HARD to make it switch.

Anyone know if it's possible to write a driver for one of these? I know that it'll probably work PnP, but what if I want to add extra functionality to each button?

This looks exactly like my Gyration MCE Remote, just a different color and a few very minute label differences. Does the FiireChief run on the Gyration dongle? If so, I'd be willing to return my Gyration MCE Universal remote and get one.
