Hi Thom/Domodude

I have a Siemens Gigaset as well, so once I connect the phone it should be detected possibly as a Cisco phone? What do I do next to get it installed in Linux MCE.

Quote
use the Generic SIP phone device template... and configure the phone with these parameters:

host: 192.168.80.1
user: extension #
secret: extension #

That's basically it.

When you mention "host 192.168.80.1" will changing the host not effect my providers settings? Sorry for being such a newbie! I have the phone setup with my provider and VOIP works fine directy through the phone.

Once the phone is setup how do I use it via LinuxMCE? Hopefully not too dumb a question?

Thanks Domodude sorry for jumping onto your thread.

Hi Crash

I tried to upgrade the NVDIA card in my system from a 7200 to a 7800gtx but it did not work for me. I got the Transparancy error during the generation of the orbitor. I switched back to the 7200 and all I got was a red scree.  I did try the option with the DVD installer to preserve the settings and home but that did not work either. I reinstalled Linuxmce with the new card and it worked without any problems. Orbitor seems a lot faster and screen redraws seem faster as well.

Hopefully someone with an ATI card can advise you.

Good luck.

Users / My LinuxMCE 7.10 experience (so far)
« on: June 04, 2008, 02:53:45 pm »
Hi guys

I have been lurking in the forums for over 6 months now I did successfully have a 7.04 system up and running without too many issues. Went back to Vista and windows Home Server. I recently decided to try out 7.10. The system that I installed it on is as follows:

Case: Antec P180 Silver and black
PSU: Tagan modular 430W
GPU: Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS 320MB - replaced with an NVDIA 720 128mb card
Harddrive 1: WD Raptor 74GB 10000rpm
Harddrive 2: Samsung T133 400GB 7200rpm
RAM: 4GB (4 * 1GB) OCZ-EL-XTC Platinum 4-5-4-15 PC6400
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-965-DQ6
Cooling, 3 * 120mm case fans, fan controller
CPU Cooling: Zalman 9500 copper cooler with fan controller
Optical One: Samsung 18X DVD /-RW/RAM (SH-183A)
Optical Two: LG 18X DVD /-RW/Ram (GSA-H42L)
CPU: Intel E2160 Dual Core Pentium

I used the DVD (RC1) installer and ran into problems with the Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS 320MB, I tried all the suggestions on the forum but gave up in the end. I went to PC World and bought a cheap NVDIA GEFORCE 7200 with 128mb RAM and this works great. AVWizard ran first time and I was able to use UI2 with alpha blending and it looks superb. I went through the set-up without any problems (wish I had all the cool plug and play gear). I still need to setup my receiver, TV and Sky Digital box - another days work!.

My biggest problem initially was how to set the networking side of the system, it took a bit of work and some messing with my cable configuration (I can provide more info if needed) but it is now working correctly and the CORE pc is acting as my DHCP server . I have been able to diskless boot my spare pc and laptop to act as media directors. It is a very powerful system and I love the flickr art (great W.A.F).

I have got a lot of help and inspiration from this forum so thanks to everyone here for the great advice. If you are struggling a bit then keep trying it will be worth it in the end. This is a great system I just need to convice the wife and daughter to use it. The wife is happy with Sky + and gets mad at me when something isnt working because I am tinkering!!!

Hi Roy

What a great update for Linuxmce, I used DVD profiler for years on my windows system. I would love to use it to catalogue my dvd collection probably from scratch asd I cannot find my "backed up" files!

Thanks a million for the work (a web ui is always nice to have as  choice)

Thanks

Hi Jay

Thanks for the reply I really  appreciate it. My TV card is not supported under Linux so i am trying to get my hands on a pvr150 or 500. Has the USBUIRT arrived? Interested in one of these myself, please update us as to how you get on with it.

I will try to integrate my sky box into the system when I gety my hands on a supported video card.

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul.

I have LMCE setup and my sky+ box connected in a manner

I use a pvr150 and input via the svid input for best picture quality.

I am currently using mythtv as vdr is not quite yet fully working on the mds as far as I can make out.

I have ordered a USBUIRT but it has not arrived so I have not set up any automated channel changing and instead just use the normal sky remote to change channels. when it does arrive this is the next thing for me to look at.

for information on this I was pointed to
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/UK_Television
by other forum members

I have not had any experience with any ATI video capture cards as when I first came to the project, nvidia seemed the best way to get UI2 and alpha blending and a pvr X50 was the way to go to get a live cable/sat box input.

I think the first thing to probably try and do is establish if the capture card works just within kubuntu, and then once its working there it should just be a matter of setting it up within LMCE.

Hi guys

Finally gave in and bought a Geforce 7 card and replaced my Geforce 8800GTS. LMCE installs and works great.

Tried to setup a Sky Digital + box (Amstrad) in the pluto admin site. The box is connected to an ATI Theatre capture card via Svideo.  I added the device and after many hours of trying to sort it out have given up.

Hoping that some user has been able to sucessfully add their sky box to their system and could please give me the required settings. Is there a set of learned IR codes available?

Thanks for any help or info in advance.

Hi guys

I have tried all the suggestions but I can still not see the AVWizard, short of dumping a perfectly good 8800gts card are there any other options that I could try?

UPDATE

I tried the 7.10 RC1 DVD again but this time instead of finishing and ejecting the disk there was a flashing curser in the corner. I restarted the PC and it booted straight into the AVWizard but the resolution was only 640x480, it would not allow me to change the display properties. I booted into the LinuxMCE Mamager but the fonts were tiny and you could not read the text. It did download the updates and started the setup process. The fonts looked terrible so I decided to reinstall but I am now back to square one the next install finished correctly but still no display of the AVWizard.

Would it make any differece if I did the CD install and installed the NVDI restricted drivers before the install? Please help I want this to work so bad!

Thanks a million.

Paul

Hi powerbits

Thanks for the info: could you please advise me about about to carry out your suggestions?

I presume I enter the grub after the DVD installation is complete? How do I

Quote
goto menu.lst in the grub with adding this # defoptions=quiet splash vga=0x31B

Then I start in recovery mode and enter startx in the command line? Will the AVWizard start then?

Sorry for the hand holding but not too good on this Linux stuff just yet. Any extra help would be appreciated.

Installation issues / Re: Tranquil Harmony Home Server as a Core
« on: April 30, 2008, 10:16:22 am »
Hi totallymaxed/ tschak909

Thanks for the advice, I was thinking of using it as a pure core machine only but it probably is not fast enough. The other machine that I was going to use is an Intel Dual processor with 4gb ram and an NVDIA 8800GTS card. Have tried unsucessfully to install using the DVD. Have not been able to use the cd  install as no matter what I do I cannot get the installer to install.

After reading through the forums there seems to be issues with nvidia 8 series cards with convuluted methods to solve them, any easier methods to solve this issue?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Paul
