Installation issues / Re: Is LMCE Ready For Public Consumption?
« on: May 25, 2007, 06:53:27 am »
I have been having the exact same problems as well. While I think that LMCE is great (in concept) it still has a LOT further to go before it can be used by any but the most dedicated techno-geeks. I've spent every free moment I had over the last two weeks trying to get LMCE running. I just recently managed to get through the installation head-aches only to now be stuck in the endless mire of configuration hell. There are just too many options that are not at all required by me or in fact even by most normal people in my opinion.

I'm going to spen a little more time trying to get LMCE configured to a point that I can actually; oh....I don't know......; watch a video on it or something. But I feel my patience wearing extremely thin lately.

I love the idea behind LMCE, but it still needs a lot of work. For future releases I would suggest that they drop all the extra fluff and spend more time working on making it easier to install and set up.

OK....after a bit more thorough searching through the forums I discovered this post.........

I've seen this error before if the Asterisk was disabled:
go to the web admin page (type your core's IP in a browser) and from the upper menu, choose wizard / devices / core and see if the 'Asterisk' check-box is checked.
Once I've checked it again, at the next reload, the error dissappeared.

But it might be another reason for it, too.

Which seemed to fix the problem. Now lets see what problems crop up next...........................

OK....after a bit of playing around I found out that I can still access the web admin page and that changing the DHCP status of LMCE was not what was causing the problem. I changed it back to DHCP just to be sure and it still did the same thing after restarting.
I have found other posts on this forum about people with the same problem, but none of those were of much use. Could somebody please give me some ideas of what to do in order to fix this. I am totally new to linux so please be gentle with me.
If posting any log files will help, please let me know what log files (as well as how to access them in order to post them.....lol) and I will be happy to provide them.
Thanks in advance

Almost got it working.......sort of................but then I ran into YET ANOTHER problem. Could somebody please give me some info on how to resolve my latest problem?

OK....I managed to work through about a dozen different issues in order to get LMCE started. I finally managed to get it going and was even able to log into the web admin page from my windows XP computer. But after I told LMCE to turn off its DHCP server I restarted and now it keeps bringing up a black screen that says "Orbiter cannot register with the router. please try again later." then crashes back to desktop. It keeps bringing up that same black page every 20 seconds or so and keeps crashing back to desktop.
My question is, do I absolutely have to enable LMCE to run as a DHCP server? I hope not.
If I don't have to run it as a DHCP server then how do I make the black screen go away?
If I do need to have DHCP enabled, how do I go back in and turn it on again given that fact that I cannot access the web admin page anymore?

On a separate note, I also hate having to log into Kubuntu every time my computer starts. Is there a way to make Kubuntu log-in automatically?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have the same problems.....................It starts to load but then chokes on this text..................

* Starting OpenBSD Secure Shell server            [fail]
......................a whole bunch more line that say [OK]......................
......................finally ending with............................
* Running local boot scripts (etc/rc.local)          [OK]

I tried commenting out [Load    "int10"] from [/etc/X11/xorg.pluto.conf] but it still does the same thing after rebooting.

I'm still new to Linux so could somebody please tell me exactly how to go about trying this suggestion?

i had the same issue on my computer, with the booting process stopped at rc.local scripts. it seems that X can't be loaded. i've solved the problem renaming kdm.saved script from /etc/init.d to kdm.

I'm guessing that I need to rename the file [/etc/init.d]......do I need to rename it to [/etc/kdm]? If so how would I go about doing that?

I wish I had an answer for that myself. After a great deal of time and trouble just getting the thing to install properly I finally got to the same part you did and thought to myself "WOW....maybe I'll actually get this to work after all."
Too soon to think that apparently.
I ended up exactly where you are now with the exact same screen and text. I know its not a matter of waiting for it to finish either because I left it running for over 8 hours while I slept just in case. I woke up to the same screen staring at me. So after restarting the system it started to boot and and ended up at exactly the same display of text again.

* Starting OpenBSD Secure Shell server            [fail]
......................a whole bunch more line that say [OK]......................
......................finally ending with............................
* Running local boot scripts (etc/rc.local)          [OK]

Then nothing.

For the record, I'm installing on an Asus M2NPV-VM mainboard with integrated Geforece 6150 Video and integrated Audio; 512MB of RAM; 80GB HDD; DVD-RW; Unknown ATSC Tuner and Unknown DVB-S Satellite Card.
