Users / Re: Remotely Access Music?

Ok so a quick check on the slime site comes up with this.
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/ConnectingRemotely

Since we already use and have a plugin for squeeze software it makes sense to use this as a starting point

Whats cool is you can use a soft-slimplayer which would get detected as a remote player and then we could assign it to a extra "internet" zone so the normal orbiters could control it. -( maybe over kill as if your remote then the normal slimplayer would be enough)

the more i think about it a flash powered media player that hooks into the audio/video on teh core would be a killer feature. Flash as its now got really good media streaming. HTML5 has some nice features that would be maybe more future-proof.

I'm going to go off and jott down my thoughts on this and see what can be bolted into teh existing frameworks we have.

you might be able to hook up to the squeezeCenter and access your music. can't remember what ports etc it uses.
what would rock is a flash based player that you could play any of your media, re-encoded on the fly, Now that would be ace

Think i ran into this last night while doing a clean install. i was also having fun getting the diskless TBZ to build.
i *think* that i edited the /etc/apt/sources.list and removed the deb http://www.avenard.org/files/ubuntu-repos testing line and replaced with
deb http://www.avenard.org/files/ubuntu-repos intrepid release

Give it a go and see.
I've not got access to that machine again till later this week.

Looks really nice.
Might need to proof read as the grammer is abit off, i'm the last one that shoudl point it out as mine is really poor, but i think the text needs checking as some of it don't sound right

You are watching your favorite movie and it is getting hotter and hotter? Why wouldn't you let LinuxMCE control your temperature and your blinds in your home automatically? In the morning the blinds go up and in the evening automatically down. To much sun in your Living Room while watching TV. Don't care about LinuxMCE will do for you!
The last sentance should read, "Don't worry about it, LinuxMCE will do it for you"

Just little things like that will make people question us abit :)

First thing that comes to mind is a ssh port tunnel.
You'd need to open up the port 22 on your core firewall and your home router/modem.

a quick google came up with http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2004-May/085358.html
and http://www.ibiblio.org/gferg/ldp/Samba-with-SSH/Samba-with-SSH.html
both which would be a good starting point

If you don't want to risk your main core, i'd stick with using your laptop for dev.
just on the safe side :)
But what should work is if on the core,  your internal nic could be bound to either your real core or your Vm core. Now i've not looked at what tools Virtualbox has, but this should be easy to do on the fly, so you could netboot your existing devices off your VM core to test.

On a side note, teh new version of Virtualbox allows openGL accelration when teh host system is linux.... my crazy brain is thinking multi-head box with a bunch of VM MDs all playing back dvds....

There's been some good points made on this thread, maybe its not got any more skilled devs onboard, but at least its woken people up (me included :) )

There is merit in the whole roadmap/vision. And as Tim pointed out the XBMC have this easy to find from their main site. Lets do the same, I'll poke the wiki and make a page or two with content to a simular, ready for when teh website gets it re-write. We can discuse on the wiki any needed changes to the wording (anyone want to beat me to it, please do as i hate writing stuff)

All the people who have come forward on this post, well done, you've taken the first steps, but now follow through and help get something done

You can Set teh VM internal network not to be shared on your network, so it only stays on your dev machine, Or you can change to DHCP range of teh dev box to something like 192.168.81.xxx

With VM machine you can also do cool stuff like linking teh virtual network directly to another local virtual machine, so you can netboot a test MD on the same box.

Nice work

How big is your VM? If its small enought we could look at having a semi offical VM dev image and share it on bittorrent, would help get those without a dev box start to get involved.

Could you pop a walk through on the wiki on how your git it from zero to ready to dev with?

cool, bbcHD... hum tempting next buy, What tv card you using?

In the media DB tables, do we have a timestamp field for last played?
What i'd also like is to see how many times i've played a file.

I think that would be a nice feature

+1

Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Native HULU support for MCE?
« on: June 30, 2009, 07:32:38 pm »
It's above me too :)
I see two core parts, First is to expose the needed lmce bits that deal with media source, i'm thinking that new shoutcast plugin will be a good starting point, expanding it to video. Once we have that we can use the xbmc API framework to link the existing plugins.

So if we get people on board we can have two areas to start researching in.
We need a breakdown of the lmce bits of code , what hooks we need to make a python program talk to the DCErouter and other bits. From my understanding we might need to link to a c++ lib to access the shared memory space the plugins use (?? needs checking)

If we can get that bit working, the python to media events, then we can start to expand on that.
I'm house hunting most nights this week, my gf has made a Long list to go see.... so might  not touch this till the weekend.

If anyone want to do some prep work, find some info on the XBMC parts, i've seen in the past on their wiki and forums some good starting guides.
If we can pull the shoutcast plugin apart to gleam how that works that will help, if any of the the final 5 (sorry bsg fan) can shed some light on this or point to a good starting point.
