Yup that works for me, but not intuitive and easy enough for a 5 year old... I want her stuff to just pop up when she press the video button on her remote...

Guess I'll have to hack some more and try to learn the system a bit better...

Stupid user error....

I forgot that I stored all the media under user_1 and not in public...

I thought that my media should be visible in the LMCE gui along with the public contents when accessing the system as me...

That was a work around for differing from my daughters and my media... I don't want all the kindergarten TV shows and she won't find her stuff if the gui is cluttered with my tons of media... =)

I guess I'll have to come up with a better solution...

That was truly interesting...

It worked and I could indeed see what was in that folder... 1 minute later... gone...

But how do I access it in the LMCE native gui? I can't see any of the contents stored on that disk when I "browse" my media. And... the disk named 31 (not manually added) is always mounted. It doesn't get unmounted like disk 38... And I can always see its contents in the LMCE gui...

Is there anything I could do to make it "stick" in the LMCE gui as well?

I can never, when in unmounted state, see the media on that disk through the web admin gui either.

There are indeed a lot of files of that disk...

I am sorry for your loss.

I am not certain how much of a 80 GB disk that gets overwritten on a DVD install, I'd guess about 10 GB's.

The pictures that might have been located on the same physical area on the harddrive won't be recoverable. Sorry...

The rest of the pictures should be possible to restore. I am not entirely certain on how much writing on the disk the formatting process actually does but formatting does normally not erase much data.

So... Download the Linux Sleuthkit and let it harvest your disk. It will probably be a very time consuming process but I guess it will be worth it if it is a photo album...

There are other commercial softwares that can do this job a bit better, I am unfortunately not aware of the policy in the forum. If it is ok to "advertise" and the software I have in mind is quite expensive as well.

Go for the Sleuthkit, it does a great job. Or send the disk to a recovery company, might be worth the money...

I've installed an extra drive to my system which is encrypted using LUKS...

I decerypt it at boot and name it sdc1_crypt and it shows up just fine under /dev/mapper/sdc1_crypt

LMCE wants to automatically add /dev/sdc1 so I chose No, and never for this device.

I then manually added the harddisk in the webadmin panel.

Advanced -> Configuration -> Devices

Opened CORE and clicked add new child device

Named it "Internal HDD (sdc1_crypt)" and picked the device template 1790. The same as the other hard drives have.

Filled out all the input boxes in the same way as the other hard drives are.

Block device "/dev/mapper/sdc1_crypt"
File system "ext2"

The Free Disk Space in Megabytes gets updated just fine.

The disk gets mounted as /mnt/device/38 after a reboot and I can use it.

But then, suddenly, after about 5 minutes it get unmounted and the folder /mnt/device/38 gets removed.

Then it won't show up again until I reboot the system and then works for another 5 minutes before it just disappears.

There are no information in dmesg or in /var/log/syslog...

Does anyone have a clue to why it just gets removed after a short while?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the device if I run fsck on it, and all files are there if I manually mount it in a manually created tmp folder. So it seems the LMCE thinks that it shouldn't be there. I just can't figure out why nor why it works for a short period...


 

I've just successfully installed LMCE 7.10b3 using KUbuntu Gutsy Alternate install disk and installed it on an encrypted disk.

Works without any problems, the onlyt hin worth mentioning is that the non alternate KUbuntu live CD will also be need in the last step of the LMCE setup process.

Works like a normal LMCE system once it is installed, with the exception that a HD password has to be entered during the boot process.

I've just got my long awaited Fiire remotes. I've understood that the system can tell a difference from the two. I did, in the advanced config, assign each remote to a LMCE user. I figured that this was what was needed for LMCE to tell a difference about who is currently using the system.

However the orbiter does not show that it has changed active user when I switch remote. Can this be accomplished? I want to be able to do so and also setup automatic filters.

I want this to make it possible for my daughter to navigate among the videos herself without having to know the whole directory structure. Teaching a five year old to use the video button on the remote and also to select a movie from the thumbnails is quite possible but also teaching her to navigate to the child stuff in the directory structure would be to hard.

So I want the movie contents to just list her stuff whenever she press the movie button on her remote...

Am I hoping for too much here?

In any case, it'll be better to make a backup of all important data, including database backup, media content etc.

I am not worried about my media getting overwritten or deleted. I have all that on separate disks, actually a separate machine... I've just not updated myself with how LMCE stores all this info. If it's in the DB, as xml files on each disk or other possible solution.

It makes sense to use the DB since it already exists but that also means that all saved settings gets lost on an update since the most secure update method seem to be re-installation.

Updating the DB and inserting the data again might not be possible after an upgrade. I don't think many end users are aware of if DB structure have changed and so on. I might not be possible to insert the backed up data... It might very well be possible for this update, but what will happen with the next or next again version...

I would guess that I've a few thousand movies in my system, even more music... I've yet not learned how to structure it in LMCE so it is just a mess at the moment. But I would really hate to redo the structuring work in the next upgrade.

I am certain the LMCE provides a efficient way to organize my media, I just need to read and do it. I am just worried about having to redo it at some point... It without doubt a much greater task than just installing KDE and LMCE from bottom. That can be done in an hour or two...

I just got a mail today from FedEx, saying that my remotes are at the Swedish Customs and must be payed V.A.T. for.

So... The Google tracking page has been incorrect the whole time. Fiire did send the remotes pretty fast even though they didn't answer my last e-mail.

Just felt that I should give this feedback so ppl don't worry about making business with Fiire...


So time to pay the tax and make sure that the remotes make the last trip over to my house =)

Haha, I am ok with anything appearing on the video menu =)

But you know... A _lot_ of videos needs organization, which currently is the directory structure. Filters needs to be created, since LMCE organizes everything in one view,  to restructure, that can be quite tedious...

Music is better... It is somewhat structured by default...

And then the thumbnails...

I am wondering about the disks were I keep all my media... Are thumbnails for movies etc stored on the media disks or in the database on the "system". Will such settings get lost in a fresh install?

I want to do a fresh install but it would totally suck if media has to be recategorized, remake thumbnails and so on when the media is like 2 TB... It gets quite annoying if all that has to be remade after a fresh install, and I guess that this isn't the last time a new version is released...

I do luckily not have all that work done in my current install but I guess that will happen in my 7.10 setup and I want to prepare such things already for the next release.

My current media is more of a flat file structure that has been used in my previous plain MythTV/XBMC system. But I am am planning for having a total LMCE system now and yeah, you see my point... Just re-installing the the system isn't that tedious but rebuilding the media would be...

I know that there are people in here that have bought things from Fiire and I would like to know if they normally are really slow both with sending things and answering mails.

I ordered a few remotes last week, in the beginning of that week. The tracking page at Google still says, "Not shipped". I've sent Fiire a mail asking about this, no response...

The money has been transferred and are no more on my bank account...

So... Do any of you know if this is normal? Can I stop worrying? Will I get any remotes before Christmas 2008? Could it be that the Google tracking page just is bad at keeping track of things?

Any input would be much appreciated!
