Nevermind- not sure what I did, trying to retrace my steps, but it's now working.  Even nicer, I got the nvidia 190 drivers installed and got UI2 medium working- need to play with it some to see how it behaves, but not getting the "Unable to open OpenGL" is a big start.

Will hope to document as I go on.

Installation issues / Acer Aspire R1600

Trying to install LMCE 810 on an Acer Aspire R1600 and document the process here:  http://wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/Acer_Aspire_Revo_1600 as that there didn't seem to be a running wiki link for this unit and it's now available in the us.

I tried following this:  http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/MythTV#EXPERIMENTAL:_Update_MythTV_to_VDPAU_version_on_0810 posted in this topic:  http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=8455.15

but get an error that libvdpau0 cannot be installed as experienced here:  http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:l5vnFgHXS2wJ:https://launchpad.net/bugs/326720+libvpau&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

Anyone else run into this?  It looks like, from that post, that all you need to do is uninstall the previous versions of glx.  Going to try this when I get home...

This all fine and good if everything is working- when I update to the latest alpha or have to rebuild the core I don't want to have to explain why she can't access her email until all of the packages download or I rewire the system to give lmce and her machine access.

That aside I didn't realize I would have to try and defend my post!   Especially when it was meant to provide somene else with a similar setup a faster/better way to connect.  Until I can trust that she will have Internet access regardless if I am around or not to the same level that I trust my router to be up, I will continue to run two separate networks.  No it's not supported but I'm also not asking for help!

This came as a duh moment for me, but others may benefit from my slowness.

I use a win orbiter on my wife's laptop and she lets me know when the IP address of the core changes.  If, you put in "dcerouter" instead of the xx.xx.xx.xx ip address it will automatically find whatever address is required and start the orbiter.

Not exactly helping the beta come out any faster, but post here FWIW.

Sorry- been planning my wedding... Fiancé still believes it is more important than lmce

Sweet- thanks pigdog.   Updating to 1.07 seems to have fixed the problem.

I started my Latitude which always sent the device offline and all of the media was there.  I didn't change anything in LinuxMCE, only updated the firmware and reloaded the router.

Mine is set up the same- read only, auto assign, online, but I am using a password.

Thanks again

Pigdog- try doing a quick reload of the router.  I've found that this kicks the NAS offline and I have to go to the admin pages and then reload.  But I am to start MDs without it going offline.

Thanks for the info

Did anything chaned (delibertly) from 710 to 810 in regards to how lmce handles remote storage?  It's just odd that this wasn't an issue before and I would like to know where to behin looking if you have suggestions

Yes, passwords and all media public.

I need to seriously play with it some more now that someone else has experienced the same.

I'm convinced that LMCE doesn't think it is offline, it only tells you that it is.  That is to say that if I have music playing on a MD and I turn on another MD (one that I know pushes the DNS-323 offline- my Dell Latitude 800) and no matter what MD I clicked on the audio button on, the list was not populated, even on the MD where the music was playing.  But, if I went to the remote on the MD where the music was playing (and still was even though the device was listed as offline) I could change songs and everything would play as though the device was still online.

To get the audio displayed on the MDs, I need to log into the admin pages, click the button to put the DNS-323 online and then quick reload the router.

Couple things I want to try:
1) When audio is playing on one MD and not displayed under the audio button (repeatable by doing the above steps) use the follow me feature to push the audio onto a different MD to see if the audio plays
2) confirm that only some MDs push the DNS offline- I think I remember at least one not affecting the status
3) put a couple videos on this DNS to see if it's just an audio issue or if the video is affected as well

There was a post a year or so back (I think I recall) that talked about a MAC address or IP address range that was used to determine particular devices.  I think it was MAC addresses and that all starting with XX:XX:XX.whatever were say a camera and XX:XX:X1.whatever are NASes.  My DNS when it first configures comes up as a DLink camera and two other unrelated things.

Not sure that any of this helps

I'm guessing you're using 810...  I have the same nas and the same problem.  I've tried putting it on the internal and external networks but get the same results.  I've also experienced that it seems to only go offline when I turn on some MDs and not others.

I'm also guessing that you at some point used 710 and, like me, did not experience this issue.

Btw, setting the system so it sends a singal every 5secs or so to keep the device online did not work for me.

I'm still obviously trying to figure it out so if you find a solution please share.

Did you get this working?  I would like to do a similar thing, but for a wedding reception.

Thanks-

Tried that- set it to the /dev/ttyUSB2 that I am able to use the command line to send messages to the receiver.

In the web admin pages, when I try to figure out which commands are right for my device, the command is send to either the core (Device #1) or the core/hybrid (my device #20).  Is this correct?  Is the command supposed to be send to the device that the receiver is connected or is the command supposed to be sent to the receiver itself by way of the port on the MD/Core.   My receiver is device #136, shouldn't the command be sent there?

I'm getting a usb->serial that has the PL2303 driver that this forum:  http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=8226.0 confirms works.

When I get that working, I will get back to this other cable...

Thanks for you help

Gadget-

Replacing line 15 with what you had written now gives me a choice between the /dev/ttyUSB* which is great.  Unfortunately the boxes that Sarah presents are not large enough to read what's written, you get at most "/dev/ttyU"

So I'm in the process of trying them.

Thanks again for the help

UNi-  no luck deleting the device and trying to let Sarah discover it when plugged in.  At least I don't know that it worked.  How do you test that it is working?  I manually set the device on CD and told Sarah that I used the DVD input.  When I play media- take a song and I hit play from the UI, shouldn't LMCE tell the receiver to go to the DVD input?

gadget- I'm going to try your suggestion tonight.
