I have a sensor on our drive way that sends signal to a unit inside and sounds a buzzer. The internal unit can be used as a relay whenever it is activated.
Could this somehow be interfaced with LinuxMCE? It's a Chamberlain sensor which is widely available so if someone already has one setup even better!

You may be able to attach this to a GC-100 and use that to interface with LMCE

An alternative that has a lot of potential is the JeeNode by JeeLabs at http://news.jeelabs.org/docs/jn4.html. Very low priced but very capable for bunch of automation and data logging tasks.
I've already suggested to use this as a networked fire alarm, the other more conventional uses are for instance electricity/gas consumption logging, movement/light sensor etc. Requires 'just' a simple GSD implementation (which I just cannot do yet :-| ).
I'm not affiliated to the JeeLabs, I just have a number of their products waiting to be integrated into LinuxMCE. Hope to see more people getting interested in this!

Yeah the JeeNode modules do look interesting I agree...but on top of having to write a GSD you would also need to write some software for the JeeNode & JeePlug (for the sensors etc) too. All of which would be a great piece of work to extend LinuxMCE i agree...but Kezza just wants to get his Gate working ;-)
... the GC100 is plug-n-play and would just need a pretty simple device template to handle one of the relay inputs on the GC100.

What about Z-Wave, INSTEON or X10 module with replay inputs? GC100 is good but IMHO it's too expensive for that task.

Well depending on the control interface on the Gate Actuators it might be possible to use a ZWave Blind controller (see here for some examples; http://www.zwave4u.com/en/Window-Control?XTCsid=0tklpcrrbc8qrqol071tcaes0ku5qb9b (http://www.zwave4u.com/en/Window-Control?XTCsid=0tklpcrrbc8qrqol071tcaes0ku5qb9b)) and although I am not that familiar with Insteon or X10 there may be similar controllers there too. I have to say that we have mostly integrated Gate entry using VOIP/SiP Entry Panels as most Gate Entry systems have an interface for telephone access (as thats how they provide notification to the house where LinuxMCE is not normally present).

Thanks for all the infomation and suggestions. Having issues with the ksmserver problem so that is priority at the moment to get things working.
I also think the GC-100 is very expensive. Z-Wave hasn't really got down to New Zealand (downfall of having different frequency to US/UK) yet but hopefully this year will see that happen. Will see if can find X10 and Insteon.
JeeNode looks quite cool at a price that I can easily justify to play around with if was integrated.
Once my system is up and running properly and can get dev system working I will attempt to get skills up to standard to help work on these sorts of things....
