Title: upnp/DLNA and the future
Post by: domotiqa.com on January 05, 2010, 02:52:41 pm
Hy all of you for your great job. Linuxmce is a great products.

I see that it's planned to use media tomb instead of fupes as upnp server !!

We are french domotic's integrator and here is our thinking. In the future, I guess that lmce need to be full upnp compatible. I love the idea of a server with movies, music, pictures, rss, and live tv to be fully accessible to every upnp client: control each device, access to ressoucres from each, control domotic ...

We use a windows computer with upnp server like tversity and xbmc, and another upnp server for live TV (satellite and TNT in france). We use the iphone as remote to control a globlacache/irtrans module though wifi (only hardware) and a KNX module interface. So we can control each device in the house and the domotic (home automation) also !

Let me know what you think about it, however, I think that putting a computer in each room should be hard in some times, however everyday, new upnp device appear on the market !

sorry for my poor english  :P

Hello,

Are you asking about integrating your product with LinuxMCE or asking about our opinion on your setup/product?

in fact, if I get involved in lmce plus my brand new company, I think my wife will goes away  ;D

and in real, I didn't know how to control upnp device one to another, and how to proposed live tv through upnp with high definition...

no, in fact I explained what interrest more and more of my customers and why I'm not using lmce as I would like !

it's just a think or if you prefer, the way I guess it will evolve in the future all the house in upnp !

So result, every dlna/upnp device can see videos... and live tv

Hi,

can you please provide us some more info about this setup. I'm trying to do similar with media tomb and VLC (I receive IPTV streams with vlc). How exactly you prepare IPTV streams for mediatomb so it shares them further to UPNP devices ?

Thanks in advance,

regards,

Bulek.

In fact I used mediatomb and just add the channels as external urls (http stream from the streamdev plugin).
For your project, why you don't stream with vlc ? I never do it but readed some people who did it !

and here all of the vlc stream doc:
