Title: Remove user PIN
Post by: purps on September 04, 2009, 09:04:27 pm
Hopefully an easy one...

I wish to remove the user PINs so that they don't have to be typed in when we select our names in the "Source" menu (whether we're in video, audio, pictures, whatever).

I have found where they can be changed in Pluto Admin > Wizard > Basic Info > Users, but I don't see an option to disable the PIN completely.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

You cannot remove the pin.  It's used in many parts of the system, including security and telecomm.  The best thing to do if you're only using the users to segment your media collection is to simply set all the pins to the same simple sequence (perhaps the default - 1,2,3,4).

You may not have noticed this, but the privacy of your personal media is taken fairly seriously.  Others really can't access it no matter how they try to get in - SAMBA, Orbiter, even from the core's terminal.  This may be slightly overkill for most situations, but it is a pretty neat feature, and you get it with no additional setup cost.

I understand the amount of effort that has gone into implementing this, I do, but I do not use any of the telecom or security features, so just wondered if it could be disabled for my purposes.

I believe you can change the PIN to a single digit, so I will just do this.
