Title: Xine freezing on diskless MD that used to work better
Post by: archived on April 02, 2006, 06:32:40 pm
Hi,

my kids are watching ripped DVDs, but they couldn't manage to watch anyone till the end. They all freeze at certain stages - with no apparent log entries....

We're watching Movies on diskless MD. This combo actually worked before, but we have added few new dvds so cannot exclude causes. After some time Orbiter menu appears, but it seems that Xine is dead, so nothing happens if I want to play media again - only reboot helps...

I've taken closer look at Core and I see occasional activity of mysqld taking up to 40% of cpu. I'm not sure if this could cause instability of Xine reading files over nfs...

How stable do you find Xine under 0.39 ?

Regards,

Rob.

I am only testing pluto with old PC's before investing in new ones...
I did have DVD play back (from DVD) on a MD working but now since .39 the playback does not work (no sound and playback at 1/4 to 1/2, maybe lower, speed)

Has anything changed in this area with this release?

Darren

we had some problems with xine when doing the testing for .39 release
we thought that we solved the issue.
we're working to a new xine wrapper, hopefully we can avoid these instability issues.

Hi all

just to say that  I spotted the same issue when playing DVDs.

It may be of some help knowing that things go much better when playing DivX (at least they are viewable untill the end), even if sometimes (expecially after 1/2 of the movie) video is not fluent.

Hi,

I put some more memory in the problem system and that seemed to make mpeg play back better but had no affect on DVD (still 1/4 playback rate).

I did some reading and think it may be a DMA issue.

As I am not to familiar with linux how would I go about looking at the MD configuration information once it is booted. I know where the images are on the core but am not sure about finding config info from here (I would assume  I need the MD to be running and me accessing it to do a hdparm)

Thanks
Darren

Hi,

Also getting weird behaviour on a previously working MD. MythTV looks like it is in slow motion and no audio, and DVD playback not working at all.

I have just put a logitech webcam on the machine and part of that process needed downloading of kernel source to build the quickcam module. I can't see why this would impact the mythtv and xine stuff though.

To access the machine's OS on a MD you will need a keyboard attached;
Open up one of the other screens using CTRL-ALT-<function key>
F1 is the startup screen, from memory and F2-F5 should give you console logins (which you can login as root) F7 will be the XServer (and therefore Orbiter)

HTH

Well the dma was not the issue. The dma was enabled, I also tried changing from the default 16-bit mode to 32-bit mode...no difference.

Does anyone else have any ideas?
