Title: newbie question DVD install, aaargh how am I supposed to be doing this?
Post by: wilsonj on November 14, 2008, 12:51:03 am
OK, I finally downloaded the DVD version of linuxmce rc2.  I burned to disc and put in a pc with a blank HDD. I get the message "could not find kernel image: linux"  Now I have no experience with linux. Was I supposed to install Kubuntu first!??  I didn't think I did with the DVD version......

Sorry for a totally silly question.

Cheers
Jamie

No, everything you need is on the DVD. Before you burned the iso image, did you check the md5 sum to make sure the download was good? Do that first, then if all is good, then burn the iso using the slowest possible speed on your dvd burner... and try again.

Hi Colin,

Thanks for your reply. It appears that my download was bad.  :'(  So I have to try again. Only another couple hours to go.....

Cheers

seriously - don't use the straight download, use the torrent file (almost no possibility of corruption as it does app layer checksums on each block and redownloads the block if bad)
