Title: mkv files not being detected
Post by: prosperosbks on November 19, 2007, 06:12:02 pm
I dropped a .mkv file into /home/public/data/videos/tv_shows_1/ along with my otehr avi files and LinuxMCE recognises the other avi files but not the .mkv . I can play this .mkv file outside of linuxmce using the Kaffeine player am I missing something. Usually I just drop the file into the folder and presto it appears in the list of shows within the GUI.
I did a reload of the router also.

What could I be doing wrong?

Many thanks in advance.

Well I am not familiar with .mkv files - have you seen this type of file appear inside lmce-0704 before? Inside lmce-0704's media browser you will only be able to browse file types that are supported.

Jyst FYI totallymaxed: .mkv is Matroska - A container format most widely used for x264 720p TV-releases.
I'd be appalled if you couldn't get LMCE to play it ;) But then again, you might have to do magic to make it play. I still haven't gotten my HTPC up and running yet :P

I suspect that the "updatemedia" mechanism doesn't recognise them when scanning for new media, can you play them with xine on the KDE desktop?

The .mkv file type need to be added to the pluto_main -> MediaType table. The 0704 DB schema did not allow enough space to add additional file types. In 0710 the schema has been extended so there is additional space for more files types... and .mp4 & .mkv filest types have been added :-)

UpdateMedia will scan for all of the file types stored in pluto_main -> MediaType

the Xine_Player DCE device currently does not have support for external subtitle files, although it can be added...it's part of libxine, but there just isn't any functionality linking it in.
