Title: Radeon x800 pro S-video problem
Post by: safetydan on September 12, 2007, 12:58:22 am
I installed from the DVD using a vga monitor.  Once it was installed I started it up and set up my account and some other stuff, everything was working fine.

I then switched it over to the TV using an s-video cable and booted it up.  During the pre-boot and Kubuntu boot splash the screen...scrolled might be the best word.  It was like the whole contents of the screen were going out the bottom and coming back in the top in an infinite loop.

Once the boot splash disappeared (and I'm assuming X started) the screen turned to a bunch of garble that looked like static but with mostly vertical lines instead of dots.

Might it help if I re-install with it plugged into the TV the whole time or somehow change some settings?

The TV works fine on S-Video output from my laptop (running winows XP and a geforce 6150go) so it's not just the TV.

The other components in the system are:
Asus A8N5X mobo
Athlon XP 3700+ cpu
soundblaster Audigy2
WesternDigital IDE HDD

I am not opposed to picking up an Nvidia card if that's the solution here but I'd like to figure out how to use my current setup.

Thanks!

ATI is no the best choice for Linux (at least till its drivers won't be open sourced). nVidia works pretty well. Not all modern models but 6XXX for sure.

Thanks guys.

I will get the driver updated and see if that helps.  Would that affect the output before the OS is booted(during the BIOS post etc)?
