Title: Installing and using the nvidia drivers
Post by: Juppers on May 09, 2007, 09:44:45 pm
How the heck do you do it? I can install fine if I only want to use vesa or the nv drivers, but I have yet to figure out how to get the nvidia drivers installed without killing the thing. I've tried installing them before, after, and during the linuxMCE install. None of it works. So what is the secret to getting the great "out of the box" experience that was described in the video?

I used the envy script to install them - you can find it here http://www.albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html  (http://www.albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html)

I had to run it before and after the LMCE install.  I also had to hack some of the scripts because my GeForce 6500 wasn't seen correctly in the system.

There is a long discussion under "why only vesa" about drivers install and what everyone has used to make it work.

HTH,

Stu

I used automatix2 to install my nvidia drivers. I found it to work better than the Envy scripts. just do a search in google for automatix as I am too lazy to post the link.

I've tried both of those and still ended up with a system that wouldn't run LinuxMCE. I'm going to try again after the install and see if I can convince it to behave. Just frustrating because I have the same motherboard that was in the video demo. I hope 1.1 is a lot better.

You could also try using the default NV drivers, and see how that goes, then after linux MCE is installed, install the nvidia drivers.

or you could do a manual install and get them off of nvidias site, that has worked occasionally for me.
