Title: Drive missing and problems rebooting
Post by: akblackwel on December 26, 2012, 07:28:28 pm
My first issue is I have a secondary disk (sda1) attached to my system. I boot off of sdb1. I've added the disk to the system, but it only shows up sometimes and get's unmounted.

Like right now if I do a df I don't see the disk. But I swear if I check back in and run df again, I see.

/dev/sda1            235326136  14150544 209221628   7% /mnt/device/57

Secondly,

I'm having problem rebooting. When this problem happens, i did notice like 20 process of mdadm running. Might be related to disappearing sda1. The only way I can reboot at that point is to hit power button or send command
echo b > /proc/sysrq-trigger

Thanks in advance.

The disk is only mounted when needed.

I've read that in other postings.

Than I'm unsure how I'm supposed to use it.

I read somewhere that is was suggested that instead of copying files to create a symbolic link. So I linked /mnt/devices/57 to /home/public/data/videos which if I run df it shows it and a UUID and /mnt/device/46.

When the disk is up, I can see the symbolic link. But when it goes down, I get nothing. Then I have to resync the video directory

So how do I go about using the disk in this fashion?

UpdateMedia, the program that scans HDD for media, mounts the needed HDD automatically. After that, the information is stored in the database. If you want to play a media that's on the HDD, LinuxMCE automatically mounts the drive, and plays the media.
