Title: dhcp and dns
Post by: archived on October 25, 2006, 01:48:35 AM
How do I configure static dhcp leases (ie printers or xbox) and their corresponding hostnames in bind on the dcerouter (dedicated core)?

Thanks,
Jason

Please don't take offence, but I'm curious.  Why do you want to put your static dhcp leases into DNS ?

As far as bind goes, it sucks.

I hope pluto staff will look at djbdns as it's so much smaller, secure, produces results instantly, and is so easy to setup and make record changes.

No offense taken.  I just like to use easy to remember hostnames for all my devices rather than ip addresses.  ie 'printer' or 'xbox' instead of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.  I run a few more devices on my network than most people and it's easier for me.  As for bind, I don't really care what DNS server is used as long as it supports caching (my providers dns servers are unresponsive  a lot during the evenings) and supports dynamic names from dhcp.
