I know there is wiki,I just want a definitive answer as to whether there is a noticeable gain in spending the extra dough on the zotac ion N330 rather than getting the 230? is it worth the extra money or is it a overkill for a lmce md?

Our experience is that there is a small gain in overall performance due to the 2nd core but in terms of video playback performance there is really no advantage.

re playback of HD material there is no difference between 220 and a 330. They both use the same nVidia chipset.
In order to make use of hardware acceleration for HD video you need to things.
0. The rigght nVidia driver. LMCE (0810) provide that for you.
1. Mythtv with a vdpau profile (atm you have to create that profile yourself from within mythfrontend) to watch hd tv.
2. xine 1.1.16.3 with vdpau patches to support gpu rendering of hd videos.
xine with vdpau is scheduled to be included in next beta.

Sounds great :)
Any idea when it will be released ?

I´ll be in next beta.
Atm deinterlacing won´t work becuase we have to do some changes to how that´s configured in lmce-admin and I haven´t had time to figure out how that part work yet.
If anyone already know or like to do some research please do.
Some issues still exist but vdpau offload work.
The problem is Xine itself that lack functionality how to handle some mkv´s.
FF show green artifacts on screen..
Re mkv´s that should be solved in Xine 1.2.
But. It seem impossible to compile 1.2 on intrepid unless one remake it´s package and dependencies and do some backporting on a whole bunch of libraries.

I'm also anxiously awaiting this release as I would like to be able to play MKVs. Any idea as to when this new beta will be available?
Thanks,
